Lacrosse Carnival

On Thursday of week 6, GPS was represented by 111 year 4-6 students at the SAPSASA Lacrosse Carnival. GPS had a very successful carnival bringing home three championships; Year 4/5 Girls, Year 4/5 Boys & Year 6 Girls! We also placed 2nd in the Year 6 Boys championship.

Congratulations to all involved, this is a great result for our school! A big thank you to Kylie Robinson for her coordination before the carnival and at the event.

The Lacrosse Carnival took place at North Adelaide Lacrosse Club on the 7th of March. We played 6 games against 6 schools. We felt like it was a real tournament; it was a lot of fun but we were definitely in it to win it! We learnt not to stab at the ball while trying to pick it up with the stick. We played with respect and two of our teams won the grand final.

We would like to thank the teachers involved in coaching, setting up the tents and supporting on the day because without them, we wouldn’t have been able to play at the carnival. We would also like to thank our teammates and the parents who volunteered to help out with the teams: Rebekah Harris, Lorenna Williams, Hayley Pendleton, Lisa Matthews, Emma Merrett, Kristina Pertunen, Ricki-Lee Snoad, Renee Mobbs, Fiona Rasch, Kerri Curnow and Natalie Polvari.

Thank you to Hunter and Harrison for helping write this article.

Thank you to Mirla M for writing about her experience at the carnival:

The swimming carnival took place at Waterworld on Friday the 1st of March. When we walked in they treated us so nicely. Also, the people who participated were Alexis B, Ramona E, Oakley M, Lucas J, Levi U, Arlia B, Indie M, Tevin HA, Ashley P, Isabella D, Jasmine A, Josie E, Maddison B, Mathew T, and me, Mirla M.

Also, I'm about to tell you how it all began. We walked into Waterworld and there were so many people there then Mrs Robinson set up all the stuff and we did a warm-up in the pool. We got out of the pool then the marshalling person spoke on the speaker and said girls and boys in the 400 freestyle come up to race. Then they had freestyle come up followed by backstroke, breaststroke and then butterfly.

I felt a bit nervous at the start when I did my first event. Then I felt a bit better but I was still nervous. I was not nervous after my backstroke and then I realised that I had learned to never doubt yourself because in the end, you're a winner because you participated.

SAPSASA Boys Cricket

On Wednesday of week 8, the boys' cricket team faced a very strong school cricket team; East Marden Primary School. Most of their players had been playing cricket for a couple of years. The boys did a very good job of taking wickets and were able to bowl the opposition out.

When we batted, we weren't able to get close to their score and couldn't make many runs. In the end, we lost 105 to 17. Overall, the boys did a very good job of doing their best and we think everyone had a lot of fun.

A big thank you to Mr Smith and Brayden for giving up their lunchtime to train us and thanks to them for all their efforts on the day. Thank you to the parent volunteers who drove us to the game and also to the parents and Miss Howie for coming to watch us play
