What's Happening in Year 1?

On Tuesday 8th October, our Year 1 students had an exciting excursion to Collingwood Children’s Farm as part of their 'Design and Technology' Inquiry unit. The 'Paddock to Plate' excursion provided the children with hands-on experience about how plants and animals are grown and used for food. They were thrilled to meet farm animals like chickens, sheep, and goats and learn about the important role they play in food production.

This excursion marked a fantastic beginning to their inquiry learning. Students now have a deeper understanding of food production and where their food comes from, which will serve as a foundation for the rest of the unit. It was a fun, educational day that reinforced key concepts in their studies and encouraged them to think about how our food is grown and processed.

Exciting News from the SMCM Green Team!

Our SMCM Green Team has been hard at work developing a recycling program to make sure our waste is put to good use. We’re committed to ensuring that recyclables find their way to the right destination for recycling.

Each week, we collect eligible containers from our lunchboxes. We then sort and count them so they can be taken to the Victoria Container Deposit Scheme Recycling Depot. So far, we’ve collected over 700 eligible containers!

If you want to support our school and help the environment, you can collect containers at home and take them to a collection point. You can then donate the funds to our school using the donation barcode provided below.

Thank you for helping our school and the planet!
