Another week, another Cooking Club. This week the Year 3s, 4s and 5s all had their cooking sessions. The students were all so engaged and great listeners, giving valuable feedback at the end of the sessions.
The Year 3 students created falafels which were a hit. They helped put all the ingredients together in the blender, then were given their own mixture to roll into balls before frying. Most of the students tried their creations and they agreed that falafels were something we should make again.
The Year 4 students who were able to attend, made stir fry. They used our new safety knives and peelers to peel and chop our vegetables before helping with the stir frying process. There was tofu to try, which the students weren’t sure about but then they had some and soon there was none left to mix into our stir fry! There was also noodles for students to have with their veggies.
The Year 5s took their cooking to the next level. They were given a recipe for banana muffins with the equipment and ingredients. They broke into groups to make their recipe and while they could ask for help when needed, worked well in their groups of 4 to 7 to create some delicious treats.
We only have one more session to go before our Cooking Club has come to an end. For those who have missed our previous reports, this club was thanks to EACH, who has given Park Ridge Primary School a healthy eating grant for the second year. With this grant we have been able to buy cooking materials that we will be able to use in our Cooking Chemistry lessons in the future.
We are very grateful for the opportunity to explore food with even more students this year, and have included some of our photos from last year’s grant.
Last year we had a photo shoot with students coming up with their own slogans and bringing their ideas for advertisements to life.
