Principal's Report

As we reach the end of Term 3, we find the term culminating in a program of exams, where students have an opportunity o demonstrate the learning growth they’ve developed over the year so far. These exams are an essential part of our academic program, not only to assess students' learning but also to build resilience and skills that will serve them in the future. For our Year 9 to Year 11 students, the exams are an opportunity to develop their ability to manage stress and handle the high content demands that they will encounter in their VCE or IB programs. Building these capacities now ensures they are better prepared for the challenges of senior years.

For those students undertaking Unit 3&4 trial exams, the purpose is even more focused. These exams mark the beginning of their revision journey. By sitting these exams seriously, students will identify their strengths and understand the areas they need to focus on in the weeks leading up to their final assessments. This process is vital in shaping their final preparation, giving them clear goals and the confidence to tackle their high-stakes exams in Term 4.

Now that exams are over, it’s crucial for all students to take some time to reflect on their performance. What worked well? What could be improved next time? Consider making notes on any changes you’d like to make in your approach, whether it’s in how you prepared or how you handled the exam itself. This could involve reviewing your revision techniques, time management, or even how you managed stress during the exam. These reflections are key to continuous improvement and will set you up for future success.

As we enter the term break, I want to remind everyone of the importance of rest and self-care. Author Anne Lamott once said, "Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." This break offers a chance to recharge, step back from academic pressures, and return refreshed for the final term of the year. So students should consciously ‘unplug’ from the textbooks, and exam questions and be ready to reboot in term 4.

Term 4 is always a significant push to the finish line. It’s a time when students consolidate their learning, complete their courses, and prepare for external exams and the transition to the next steps in their learning. That’s why it is so important to take this time over the holidays to rest, spend time with family and friends, and return with the energy and focus needed to finish the year strong.

Wishing all our students and families a restful and rejuvenating break, and I look forward to seeing everyone on the 7th October ready to tackle the final term of 2024 with enthusiasm and determination.
