Senior Constable Sarah Davis visits Years 5 & 6

This Wednesday, Senior Constable Sarah Davis from Victoria Police came and visited the senior students and gave a talk focussing on the appropriate use of social media.

Our students listened intently, as S/C Davis answered a number of questions from our very interested group of students.

Donvale Discoverers

This term our senior students have been split into four different groups for our Monday afternoon sessions. Under the tutelage of a different teacher each, our groups are DISCOVERING a topic of their choice. Topics are...

  • DTV - With Mr Reiter, students from not just a selected grade are filming and producing a new episode of DTV.
  • Podcasting - With Mr Hogg, students are learning about the art of planning, recording, and editing a podcast on Garage Band.
  • Gardening - With Ms Costopoulos, students are learning about horticulture and spending time in the community garden space outside the GP room (when weather allows!)
  • Knitting - With Mrs Hodgson, students are practicing their fine motor skills and being given a number of tasks to accomplish.

Below are some photos of gardening and knitting from this week's classes.

Gardening

This week we had Zoe from Bunnings Warehouse Australia join us. Zoe helped the students to plant a heap of seeds and seedlings including tomatoes, lettuce, peas, carrots, basil and marigolds. We can’t wait to watch these grow!

Thanks to Bunnings Warehouse Australia for donating the seeds and seedlings to the school.

Knitting

The students have been enjoying learning the skill of knitting, with the aim to knit a square that can be turned into a blanket. This has required a lot of concentration, patience and some frustration as stitches are lost or dropped.

Well done to these students for giving knitting a go!
