From the Music Room

Mrs Keep

We made a fabulous start to Term 4 with a performance by our talented Marimba Band at assembly last Friday. These students are in year 5 and 6 and rehearse each Wednesday at lunch time.

Our overview for Term 4 looks like this:

Foundation

  • Exploring the basics of Tempo, Dynamics, Timbre through a variety of songs, movement and playing of percussion instruments

Grade 1 and 2

  • Discovering the music of The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint Seans. Students each have their own book to complete weekly reflections. We have heard music form the Royal March of the Lion, Hens and Roosters and Wild Donkeys.

Grade 3 and 4

  • To follow along with the class integrated topic, this term students have been watching a variety of dances from around the world. Next week they will commence working in groups to choreograph a dance from a country of their choosing. These will be performed to their year level later in the term.

Grade 5 and 6

  • This term will focus on learning the basics of playing chords on keyboards, chair drumming and combining instruments to create a short group performance to class mates.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

  • Our annual Christmas concert will take place on Thursday December 12, after school.
  • In readiness for this, each class and choir will begin learning and rehearsing Christmas songs throughout the term.
  • Please put this date in your calendar - we hope you can come along to help celebrate!
