Netball Grand Finals

Saturday 14 September was netball Grand Final day at RNA. After a rocky start to the season with the weather, we were blessed to have such wonderful weather on Grand Final Day!

The first Kambala team to play was our Year 9A team, Kambala 7 against STC 15.1. This game was one of the most exciting games I have ever watched! Our girls started the game so well and quickly took the lead in the first half. STC came out firing in the second half and were able to catch up to our girls. The last quarter Kambala 7 players dug deep and held their nerve, blocking out the sounds of the STC supporters. With just seconds left to go and only one goal the difference, our defenders were able to get another intercept and keep control of the ball until the final siren sounded. Kambala 7 won the game 16-15! To say I am proud of this team is an understatement. These girls are not only fantastic netball players, but they are even better people. They have shown such respect and humility throughout the whole season and are a credit to their parents and to Kambala. It was so great having the families support these girls today and every week.

I would like to give special mention to Alana Kuperman who for the past two Grand Finals has unfortunately been injured and unable to play, however, came out to support her team. To Leah Wilkinson in Year 8 for stepping in to help this team out when they lost Alana, thank you! It is not easy to be the Goal Shooter of any team, especially a team you are new to. You handled the pressure so well. To Ella Sargent and Emily Milling who have now played in 3 Grand Final winning teams 3 years in a row! That is not an easy feat, and you are both such incredible girls and netball players! To Alessia Bowman, Coco Sweeney, Eva Heckendorf, Jessica McLennan and Scarlett Pope on an amazing game and season. I would also like to give a special mention to Sybella Bowman who we have absolutely loved seeing at netball the past 3 weeks supporting her sister and the team. Finally, to Ms Danvers and Ms Laytham who came to support the girls on the day. The girls and I really appreciated your support, particularly in the last few minutes when the game was so close!

Our second and final game of the day was our Senior A Grand Final. Kambala 1 played against The Juniors in a very tough and physical game. Our girls started well; however, The Juniors quickly took the lead in the first quarter. A few tough calls that didn't go our way made it hard to recover and we quickly found ourselves 11 goals down. The third quarter was by far our best quarter, and we were able to get within 3 goals of the Juniors going into the final quarter of the game. Unfortunately, our girls went down to the Juniors on the day 50-34. I am so proud of this team and the way they played each and every week. They are a credit to their parents and to Kambala in the way they conduct themselves on and off the court. A huge thank you to our Year 12 girls who played their final club netball game for Kambala; Edie Christopher, Anneke Lenior, Maddie Nazar and Sophie Regan. I am sorry we couldn't get the win for you; we will just need to win the IGSA final on Saturday! To our best supporters each and every week, the parents! Thank you for always being there to support the girls. It is a pleasure to see you every week. To Ms Danvers and Ms Laytham who stayed and supported our Senior A team thank you so much! I know the girls really appreciated your support.

Senior A Netball Team claim historic Grand Final Victory

In a momentous achievement, our Senior A netball team has secured our first ever Grand Final victory in the IGSA S02 division! The team’s triumph came after a thrilling match filled with intensity and determination; captivating spectators who witnessed the action unfold.

The final, held at our home court Sydney Uni, saw our girls play against a very strong Frensham team. Both teams had big crowd support and entered the match with high expectations. Despite the pressure, our Kambala girls managed to maintain their composure and deliver a near-flawless performance.

From the start, our Senior A team set a commanding pace, with their defence holding strong and shooters capitalising on every opportunity. The first half saw a close contest, however, in the second half our girls lifted and ran away with the victory.

The final whistle was met with an eruption of cheers as players and supporters celebrated the long-awaited victory!

After a tough loss last week in the RNA Grand Final, I am so proud of these girls and the determination they showed to win the IGSA final! What a great way to send off our departing year 12’s; Edie Christopher our captain who has played for Kambala since year 7, Grace Hyder who has been in the Senior A team since year 8 and is an outstanding defender, Maddie Nazar who has improved so much over the past few years and has cemented herself in the starting 7, Sophie Regan who joined our Kambala club team this season and has played two years in the IGSA team and Anneke Lenior who has played for Kambala since year 7 and has improved so much over the years!

Huge congratulations to the rest of the girls in our team; Laura Janes, Lyla Hyder, Kalia Finau, Minty Welsh and Emilia Tammela. Without all of you this victory would not have been possible.

A big thank you to our amazing coaches Bri and Mia! Without your guidance, this victory would not have been possible. Finally, to all of the supporters who came out to watch the game, thank you! It was so great to see so many  parents, family members,  teachers and friends (particularly the year 12 girls) come to watch the game. We all really appreciate your support!

MLC Water Polo Winners

On Friday 13 September Kambala played against MLC in the MLC Water Polo competition final. Our girls were down to 1 reserve only for this game due to injury and illness which made it extremely hard from the start. To their credit, our Kambala girls played amazingly and were able to really lift each other throughout the game. It was such an exciting game with only two goals the difference. Kambala were victorious 10-8! Well done girls on a great term of Water Polo, let's hope we can continue the winning streak in Term 4!

Kambala 6 Basketball Winners

Last Saturday 21 September was the IGSA Basketball Grand Finals and we had one team, Kambala 6, playing. The girls were up against Danebank and were determined to win this game as Danebank had beaten them in the round games. The scores were tied for the majority of the game and the crowd and coach was on the edge of their seats throughout the whole match. Kambala clinched victory in the final minutes winning 23-22! Well done to the girls and to their coach Angus who has done a great job with the team this season.
