Holiday Reflections

During the recent school holidays, I went to MLC gymnastics which is always so much fun! First, I saw my friend Charlotte and we raced each other on the inflatable race apparatus for what appeared to be a very long time, however, there was time for colouring in as well. After a while, we got into our gym classes and groups ready for gymnastic fun. I was with Charlotte, Isla, Lila, Allegra, Milly and some other girls. When we were on the floor, we practised our flexibility, doing impressive handstands and other gymnastics. Next, we got free time, so Lila and I built a mini fort out of soft mats and foam blocks. When the free time was finished, we had to wreck it. Then we did squishy painting. Our finished artworks were a burger, a rainbow and an ice cream. Finally, we watched a movie called Abominable and it was AMAZING!!!

On the holidays I went to a very wet Gold Coast and a not so sunny Queensland. During the first Thursday of the first week, I boarded a Jetstar flight with my parents. It was a smooth flight and I ate banana bread and drank apple juice whilst my parents had a coffee. I watched a movie called ‘Tag,’ which was pretty good! After arriving, we noticed that it wasn't very sunny however my Dad and I still took off to play Putt Putt minigolf. The first course we did was called Jungle Trail and the second was called Water Works. Unfortunately, my Dad won both times! Continuing with fun activities, we played Zone Bowling next which was so much fun! We got to play two rounds of bowling. In the first round my Mum and I tied on eighty nine points and my Dad won on one hundred and ten. For the second round there were similar results. The fun and games continued at Time Zone and we continued to play heaps of games that I loved. My favourite was this really cool Ping Pong game that I played for the first time. Finally, after much entertainment, we met up with one of my Dad’s friends and had dinner at Valentino’s, eating a delicious pasta. It was an eventful holiday with lots to do. Then it was time to go back to Melbourne and I hope I will get to go back again soon.

On the holidays, my family from Albury had lunch with me and my dad, and I had some fun. First, we drove down to the place that we were having lunch at which was called Left Bank. Next, we met our family and had a quick chat before ordering lunch. I had salt and pepper calamari and it was delicious! After we finished lunch, we drove home. A little bit later my dad took me to Yochi. I had vanilla flavoured yoghurt and mango pearls. Finally, I had dumplings for dinner. I had a great time over the school holidays.

On Monday 30th September, l went to Canberra with my family. My mum said,  "We are going on a plane that takes 1 hour to get there. We are also staying in a 5 star hotel for 3 nights." l went to Canberra because I haven't been there and l got High Distinction in Maths. l was so excited! First, we went to Check in at the airport. I had a body check (You need to do this because they think you are a robber) and packed our luggages. Next, we boarded the plane and waited for it to fly up. It was so fast when we went up (l was kind of scared because it was so fast). Then, we landed in Canberra. When we arrived we went to eat dinner and checked in at a 5 star hotel for 3 nights! After that, we went to the Science and Technology Museum. There was rainbow coloured Lego to play with. It was so fun that I wanted to stay there for 1 hour. While we were in Canberra we also went to the Royal Mint Museum and the National Museum. Finally, I went on the plane and left Canberra to go home. I felt sad to leave because it was such a wonderful place but felt lucky that I got High Distinction in Maths to go to Canberra.

On the holidays I went to Bendigo in the first week with my mum, dad and brother.

First we drove to Bendigo. It took 2 hours to get there. In the car, me and my brother decided to play UNO and spotted many soft furry animals. Then we got to our AIRBNB and we found some chocolates on the table once we got in. My dad booked a real gold mine tour at 3:00 so we had to go quickly. Next we entered the mine and it was our turn. We went down the lift and it was 6.1 metres underground. Inside the mine we had a tour guide who told us the safety rules. First we put on a helmet with a big light on top. I discovered iron gold and lots more. After the tour, we went to Legoland and I built an enormous tower with a pointy end. After that, we went to a waterpark with a big slide with water. The next day we went to a pottery. In the pottery they were making big beads like fish, mermaids and foxes. The old woman showed us how to make beads. Finally we went to checkout and we went to the Sacred Heart Church. It was enormous. We went back home, but on  the way we went to McDonalds and the donut shop. It took 2 hours to get home. I felt really tired because I went to lots of places.

On the holiday I went to Anthony's birthday. First we drove to Anthony's house. We decided to play soccer. The teams were me, Edward and Slade versus Patrick, Noah and Liam. At the end of the game the score was 15 to 5 and my team won. Then we had some food. I ate sausages rolls and one pie. Also something very funny happened. Slade  dropped his plate with sauce on it and the sauce fell on the floor! Next we played switch  and I completed this very hard level for Anthony. It was very difficult. After that I did a 1v1 against Noah and I smashed Noah 27 to3. I played really well. Finally I said goodbye to Anthony and left. I had an awesome time at Anthony's birthday.

Year 6 Sailing

This term, the Year 6 students will participate in the Sailing program with the Boatshed at Albert Park Lake on:

Friday 25 October

Friday 1 November

Friday 8 November

Friday 15 November

Friday 22 November

This program is a major highlight in our calendar for our graduating students, as they learn valuable skills that they may have never attempted. Along with all the skills listed below, students will work with others to achieve a common objective of navigating their boat and building resilience through variables that may arise.

The program has been designed as an introduction to sailing and at the completion, each participant should be able to achieve the following:

  • Steering with tiller extension
  • Be able to turn around (tacking, gybing)
  • Comfortably reach around a figure of 8 course using both ways of turning
  • Be able to sail up wind, assisted by power boat
  • Be able to sail downwind using a follow the leader method
  • Participate in a capsize
  • Participate in rescue drills
  • Learn the 3 safety rules while on the water
  • Be able to identify the no go zone and the effects it has on your sailing
  • A basic understanding of currents and tides
  • Basic wind awareness of direction and strength
  • Learn respect and care for a boat
