Design and Technology

Learning about Design and Technologies will be a creative experience for children. This term we will have a focus on materials, their properties and how we use these in our everyday lives.

This term students will investigate a range of materials such as wood, glass, plastic, metal, wool and fabric. These investigations will require students to use some of these materials in a design activity each week. This creative process will encourage them to describe these materials by their properties (eg. strong, hard, flexible, transparent). It is sure to be lots of fun, with a fair amount of trial and error. This will further students' understanding that making mistakes is part of our learning, and that we can improve the things we make by discovering those ideas or techniques that are not successful the first time.

The activities this term will include...

  • Building a Birds Nest
  • Paper Spinner Helicopter
  • Balloon Powered Car
  • Zip Line
  • Marble Maze
  • Boat Building
  • Santa’s Sleigh
