Term 3 is an exciting term at St Paul and a big part of that energy comes from the focus on Performing Arts in Years 1-6. Our Performing Arts teacher, Mr Josh Huxtable, does an incredible job of developing our children's skills and passion for the Performing Arts subjects of Dance, Drama and Music all year. This really comes to fruition for many children during our Concert (Years 1-4) and the Schools Challenge (Years 5-6). These are wonderful experiences full of learning and growth as children put the skills they have learnt into action in a stage production.
Last night, our Year 5 and 6 children participated in the SA Schools Challenge. Hosted by Andrew 'Cosi' Costello, the SA Schools Challenge was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and saw our children perform alongside other primary schools, secondary schools and dance schools. Our Year 5 and 6 children presented a fabulous performance which explored AI generated art compared to personal artistic creation. The description of our performance was: "Artistic skills are put to the test when the school hosts an art competition encouraging children to express themselves through their artwork. Jessie eagerly embraces the challenge and begins to paint after school. Meanwhile, Alex, focused on winning, uses a newly developed AI art generation program to create their entry for them. Who will triumph in this battle of paint versus pixel?"
Our performance was recognised with the overall award for 'Best Sound and Music' which recognised the talents of Mr Huxtable who personally composed the music for the performance, a unique element of our performance that was commended by the judges in their comments. Our children also received commendations for the 'Congeniality' award and the 'Costuming and Props' award. Congratulations to all of our Year 5 and 6 children, Mr Huxtable and all the other teachers. A huge thank you as well to all of the parents who helped make this performance happen.
Our Year 1-4 children are getting excited as their own performance comes along with Concert in Week 10. The performances are already looking amazing and we know that this will be a fantastic experience for all of the children involved. Tickets are available for $5 and can be purchased through Qkr! Each performance runs from 2:00-2:45pm and the dates of performances are: Monday 23 September: Year 1, Tuesday 24 September: Year 2, Wednesday 25 September: Year 3, Thursday 26 September: Year 4. We look forward to seeing you all there!
