Term 4, Week 2
Dear Year 3 & 4 Families,
We can’t believe that this is the last term of the year.
Year 3 & 4 students have undoubtedly grown socially, academically and personally throughout the year, and it has been an absolute delight observing and contributing to this process as their classroom teachers.
We are extremely proud of our students’ hard work and efforts.
Let’s have a glance at what the students are learning this term:
In English, they are learning about narrative writing. Students are provided with the opportunity to practise writing narratives using the structure – orientation, complication, sequence of events and resolution. There is certainly a lot of creativity seen in their writing and where they use their imagination to write their stories. Students are further developing their writing with grammar, spelling and comprehension exercises relating to this genre.
In Math, we've begun looking at decimals. Decimals provide a great opportunity to explore how our place value system operates and how it shifts when working with negative numbers. We’ve examined tenths and hundredths, comparing them to fractions to deepen our understanding of their relationship. We will also investigate money, focusing on how our currency system functions and making clear connections to the hundredths we've just covered in decimals. It looks like we're in for an exciting final term in maths!
Our Inquiry topic is 'How can people use places and environments more sustainably?' During this unit of work, we will discover and learn about sustainable practices and strategies that individuals and communities can adopt to use natural places and environments in a more responsible and eco-friendly manner.
Our visit to Healesville Sanctuary will complement this inquiry by allowing students to dive into the Australian bush and discover the rich cultures and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
