Performing Arts Update!

Music

Students showcased their learning this week at the Kitchen Garden Luncheon, performing the ensemble piece “Going Home” for our school community, as well as the Macarena (just for fun!). Featuring four parts—bass, harmony, melody and percussion—it was the first time F–5 students performed together as a whole school, and they did a fantastic job. We look forward to seeing them perform again at the Redgum Festival!

Dance

Students have been enjoying exploring the Ausdance Activate Dance Cards this term as part of our weekly program. Each week, students select a new card to guide fun and engaging movement activities, helping them explore different elements of dance.

This curriculum-aligned resource encourages students to express themselves, build confidence, and develop movement skills through purposeful and enjoyable physical activity in the classroom.

Drama

Year 3–5 students have explored The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan through drama activities, culminating in viewing the short film and discussing its key themes.

The story encouraged students to think about the importance of embracing individuality, showing kindness, noticing the world around them, and recognising that everyone deserves a place to belong. It also highlighted the value of maintaining curiosity and a sense of wonder as we grow.

F–2 students explored the story There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly through a range of engaging drama activities, including puppetry, games, and whole-body re-enactments with costumes and props. They also enjoyed a reimagined version, There Was An Old Bloke Who Swallowed A Chook, before collaboratively creating and illustrating their own class story, There Was A Pink Dragon Who Swallowed A Knight, to conclude their drama unit for the term.

Choir

The choir has been working hard to get out of their speaking voices and develop their singing voices, exploring unison, part, and round singing. Our Year 5 leaders have done a wonderful job guiding small groups, and as confidence grows, students are beginning to refine their performances through the use of dynamics.

"The Dish Kids" School Band

Students have continued to enjoy exploring instruments in the lunchtime school band,  eager to have a turn behind the drums or the keyboard. Edith brought her guitar along and we all learnt and played the chords to Taylor Swift's song Shake It Off which was lots of fun!

Eisteddfod Opportunities - Entries are OPEN NOW but are closing soon!

Speech & Drama

If you haven't and you're keen to enter the Speech & Drama portion of the Hamilton Eisteddfod please respond to the uEducateUs app. I’m looking for numbers of students who could attend the Eisteddfod on the Saturday of the June long weekend, as we may enter some drama ensembles (lots of fun!). Students interested in Speech & Drama solos should be entered online by families but I can help select a poem and work with the student!

Entries for the Hamilton Eisteddfod are NOW OPEN so jump online by following the link below: https://hamiltoneisteddfod.org.au/competitor-information/#enter

Film

Exciting news! The Eisteddfod is running its first ever film competition this year with the theme WATER. Primary students can create and submit their own short film (even using iMovie). Films must be original work, rated G, and not created with AI assistance. There is a separate section for AI assisted work.

See the website for more details: https://hamiltoneisteddfod.org.au/eisteddfod-details/film/
