Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to all of those families who came along and made our Fathering Project event such a success. With Tanya behind the BBQ, footy and basketball games happening and with our guest speaker Rodney Eade sharing the importance fathers play in the lives of their children, the evening was a huge success.
The wall near the front office looks amazing, and will be a reminder for many years to come of the importance dads play in the lives of their children. A big thank you to the team of staff who made this happen, led wonderfully by Mrs Andreou our Mental Health in Schools Leader. Stay tuned for our next event.
From celebrating the role of fathers last week to celebrating the diversity in our community this week, our Harmony Day assembly, commencing with a stirring acknowledgement of country by Aurora from grade 2, followed by several cultural performances was once again outstanding. It was such a heart-warming sight to see so many students dressed in their cultural attire, or orange, to celebrate the rich fabric of cultures within our school community. The community and student performances showcased the very best of our multi-cultural society as will our Cultural Lunch to be held this Wednesday. If you are contributing to the lunch, please remember all dishes must have their ingredients listed. Well done to all involved.
Last week students in grades three and five completed some components of the National Assessment for Literacy and Numeracy Program (NAPLAN). As with the rest of the country, we did have technical issues which slowed the roll out of the assessments, however thanks to some technically minded staff, and resilient students some assessments were completed, with others due for completion this week. The results will come back later in the year, and by all accounts our students tried their very best and should be very proud. Once we receive the results, these will be sent out to parents accordingly.
Next term, students in grades three and four have the opportunity to head off to Cave Hill Creek for a three day, two night camp full of fun and adventure. Recently, a call was made to parents to see if any would like to come along. There was a large response and sadly we are restricted in how many can come along. Lauren Wishart will be finalising these preparations shortly, and a big thank you to all who offered.
These students won't be offered a camp again until they are in grades five and six respectively, and there is still limited room for students to come along. If you would like your child to attend, please contact the office. If the cost is a concern, please talk to the office about a payment plan as we would hate for anyone who wanted to attend to miss out.
Kind regards,
Simon McGlade
Principal
