Principal's Message

A Prayer for our School Family
Loving God,
We thank you for the gift of our school community.
In the busyness of our days, help us to find the "stillness" where your peace lives.
May our classrooms be havens of calm.
May our words be seasoned with kindness.
May our hearts be anchored in your love.
Guide our students to move through the world with mindful hearts,
And help us all to hear your voice in the sacred silence.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen
Nurturing the Spirit Through Stillness with Christian Meditation
Dear Families and Friends,
Last Friday, our school gates remained closed, but inside our walls, a profound transformation was taking place. Our entire staff - including teachers and our dedicated Learning Support Officers - gathered for a professional learning day dedicated to the practice of Christian Meditation.
As a Catholic community, we recognise our students first and foremost as Children of God. While academic excellence is a pillar of our school, we are equally committed to the "whole child"—tending to their spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being.
Why Meditation? Why Now?
We live in a world that is increasingly loud, fast, and digitally connected. For children, this constant stimulation can lead to a sense of overwhelm. Our morning sessions allowed us to dive deep into the research surrounding child health. The statistics are clear: consistent meditation can significantly reduce anxiety, improve focus, and build emotional resilience.
However, for us, meditation is more than a wellness tool. It is a way to create "sacred space" within the school day, allowing our students to find the silence necessary to hear God’s voice in their lives.
Our Journey Together
The day was structured to ensure that we aren't just teaching a technique, but modelling a way of being:
- Understanding Silence: We explored different types of silence—not as an absence of noise, but as a presence of peace.
- The Whole Child: We reflected on what we want our school to "look, sound, and feel" like. We envision a community where students are grounded, staff are mindful, and parents feel a sense of shared calm.
Building the Roadmap: In the afternoon, we tackled "The How." We discussed evidence-based approaches to embed meditation into our daily classroom rhythm, ensuring it becomes a consistent, predictable part of every student's experience.
Looking Ahead
This is the beginning of an exciting journey for our school. You may soon hear your children talking about "finding their stillness" or practicing deep breathing at home. We aren't looking for overnight shifts, but rather the "slow grow" of a peaceful heart.
By prioritising this practice, we are giving our students a gift that will last far beyond their primary school years: the ability to return to a place of inner peace whenever the world feels a little too loud.
Regards
Brian Martin
