A Strong Sense of Connection and Belonging

I would like to share with our school community the wonderful sense of connection and belonging that our students continue to demonstrate each day.

Our playground is a vibrant and energetic space, filled with action, laughter, and positivity. It’s inspiring to see students from all year groups interacting so naturally with one another as they engage in a wide range of activities, including table tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer, chess, music, and dance. These moments reflect a school culture where students feel comfortable, included, and supported.

Participation in these activities is not only enjoyable but also plays an important role in students’ personal growth. Through these experiences, students are developing new skills, building confidence, and forming meaningful friendships.

With so much on offer, students are encouraged to take the initiative and get involved. I encourage families to support their children in exploring these opportunities—there is so much to gain, from having fun and learning new skills to strengthening their sense of belonging within our school community.

The term has been an exciting one, highlighted by our annual Open Night. In Week 4, our Year 7 students visited local primary schools to promote this event. Thank you to Ayessa, Mariana, Sasha, Ilman, Saden, Lilliane and Isabel for visiting Eastlakes, Mascot, and Gardeners Road Public Schools and sharing your high school experiences to encourage attendance at our Open Night.

Our Open Night was a special evening, with an overwhelming number of our student leaders guiding tours. Community members praised the engagement and support shown by all our student leaders. Our future Year 7 student leaders spoke proudly and eloquently to prospective parents and students about why our school should be their school of choice. We had a very positive turnout and look forward to continuing our collaboration with primary schools to support and prepare new students for 2027.

This term also saw the successful completion of NAPLAN testing. A huge thank you to the Learning Support team, led by Ms Whelan as NAPLAN coordinator and Ms Healy, supported by Ms Tickle, Mc McLean and Mr Sneddon. It was a significant team effort, and we appreciate everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure our students performed their best during the testing window.

We also held two significant assemblies this term, both very meaningful. On Friday, 20 March, we came together to celebrate Harmony Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Our committed SRC led a special assembly, featuring guest speaker, Alysha from Together for Humanity, followed by engaging activities during Break 2.

We remain committed to fostering inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for all Australians—from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world. This day reminded us that “Everyone Belongs” and inspired our school community to embrace diversity and work towards making our school a better place for all. Thank you to Mr Nguyen and Mr Lim-Klumpes for leading this important assembly and event.

I would also like to especially thank Year 12 students Tevita, Mele, Allira, Kian, Joyce and Josaia for their commitment and support of the Dance Mentoring program for Mascot Public School’s Harmony Day. They generously volunteered their free time to mentor primary school students in Pacifica Dance over several weeks, demonstrating outstanding leadership and dedication. I also thank Pauline and Joy, who attended one session to observe and prepare to continue this wonderful program next year.

The other significant assembly this term was on Monday, 23 March, we proudly celebrated International Women’s Day with a special assembly led by our student leaders Bagus, Sienna, Aylin, and Mele. We were honoured to welcome Dr Tessa Needham, a talented writer, artist, and actor passionate about the fusion of creativity and technology. It was a memorable and empowering assembly—thank you to Ms Gunawan and Ms McInnes for leading this event.

Our Year 7 students have settled well into high school and all returned from the Year 7 & 8 Camp with memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you to Mr Pitt, Mr Taouk, and all staff who attended and helped provide our students with a wonderful experience and the chance to connect with their year groups.

I wish all staff, students, parents/carers, and community members an enjoyable and restful break. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to our school, students, and community. I look forward to seeing you all next term.
