Year 7 HSIE

This term, Year 7 HSIE has started an exciting journey towards their high school education with an investigation into the historical landscapes of the world. Year 7 learned about where humanity derived, and how the major events of history affected the modern world. Students are taught explicit historical skills in research, close reading of sources, and examining various viewpoints from different stakeholders from the past and present. It is pleasing to see such great enthusiasm and engagement from an aspiring cohort of possible future historians!

Year 9 Commerce

This term begins with a curious question of: “What does it mean to be a consumer?” As this question leads to the learning of the term, we begin the examination of consumerism, the markets, and the various risks and rewards that comes with an analytical understanding of the commercial world. Students examine how to identify scams, how to seek consumer redress in purchases, and where to seek help if all avenues are exhausted with businesses. Through this investigative study, students are empowered to become informed consumers who has shown to have the capacity to make sound financial decisions. I am very happy to see where our curious students of Commerce will showcase their analytical mindset to next in our journey of the world of Commerce.

Year 10 Commerce

With the term beginning the second year of Commerce studies, the Year 10 class begins their studies into the workplace as the primary focus of the term. During this time, several students are curious about engaging in casual jobs outside of school, and certainly consistently come to class with questions about the workplace that they seek guidance on. We learned together the value work brings in our lives, and the contributions it creates to society as a whole. The class learned about the various financial aspects of work, such as leave entitlements and superannuation, and also about the avenues of conflict resolution if it arises at the workplace. Through these very practical, relatable and research-focused learning - students have shown a masterful capacity to become an advocate for work rights and employment laws in their own lives and communities.

Year 11 Geography

On Wednesday Year 11 Geography students recently participated in an enriching excursion to La Perouse Beach as part of their studies on coastal management. During their visit, students conducted primary fieldwork investigating coastal erosion and the formation of sand dunes. Using a variety of field techniques, they collected data and observed firsthand the dynamic processes shaping the coastline. This opportunity allowed students to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, deepening their understanding of effective coastal management strategies and the challenges faced by coastal environments. The excursion was a valuable component of their Geography program and will greatly assist them in their upcoming assessment tasks.

Year 11 Legal Studies

The constantly shifting landscapes of the legal world brings many questions that students ask in our lessons weekly. As our exploration of the legal landscape begins with an understanding of the structural fundamentals of the legal system, we unpack the way laws are created and amended, and understand the complexities behind the changing societal landscapes to the challenges of responsiveness of the law in reflecting what justice truly means for Australians. In our studies, we examined contemporary issues such as the e-bikes legislation, integrity in government laws and how international issues are addressed in the Australian domestic landscapes. Through these structured, analytical and research-focused lessons, students are constantly challenged and improved through their writing and research into issues that affect their lives daily. This learning trajectory will consistently grow and be built upon to further our goals in the HPGE focus and improve both our learning outcomes and the results from the learning of the class.

Year 12 Business Studies

In Year 12 Business Studies, students have been exploring the fascinating world of Marketing. Throughout the term, they have shown great dedication by submitting practice essays for feedback and continually refining their responses under examination conditions. Our learning journey culminated in an engaging taste test activity, where students compared Coke with a generic cola. This experience highlighted the significant impact that branding has on our purchasing decisions and consumer behaviour. It has been a rewarding term of growth and discovery in Marketing!
