Science/Mathematics Faculty Update

We are pleased to share that we have a new Mathematics teacher, Mr. Kenny, who has stepped in bringing hands-on and practical experiences to the classroom while Ms. He is absent. This is what has been happening this term.

Science 7-10

In Years 7 to 10, students have been diving into the fascinating world of science and chemistry. They’ve been investigating chemical reactions, exploring the properties of different substances, and making exciting discoveries and observations about how the world around them operates at an atomic level. Year 7 has also extended this knowledge and understanding to the universe.

Senior Physics students in Years 11 and 12 have been exploring the concept of energy. They’ve been investigating how energy is transferred and transformed in motors and generators, as well as examining the physics of motion. By applying key principles to real-world scenarios, they are gaining a greater appreciation for the laws of physics that govern our universe.

In Biology, Year 11 and 12 students have been studying ecosystems, genetics and diseases. They’ve been exploring the delicate balance of ecosystems, how organisms interact within them, and the fundamental principles of genetics that determine traits and inheritance. Year 12 attended an excursion to the Museum of Human Disease at UNSW to enrich the learning they have covered in class and view specimens of infectious and non-infectious diseases.

Mathematics 7-10

In Year 7 Mathematics, students have been building a strong foundation in integers, learning how to work with positive and negative numbers, and applying their skills to problem-solving scenarios.

Students in Years 8 to 10 have been tackling algebra, a key area of mathematics that underpins much of their future learning. They’ve been exploring equations, expressions, and relationships between variables, helping to develop their analytical thinking skills.

In Years 11 and 12, senior mathematics students have been working on equations, data, and probability. From solving complex equations to analyzing data sets and understanding probability in real-world contexts, they have been refining their mathematical reasoning and application skills.
