Support Unit Term 1 Highlights
Term 1 has been a busy and positive start for our Support Unit students. In Geography, students have been learning about landscapes and landforms, while in Maths they have been building their skills in algebra and equations. In English, classes explored the theme of Adventure, encouraging imagination, discussion and engagement across a range of activities. In Science, students focused on an introduction to science, careers in science, science safety and the human body. In PDHPE, students enjoyed keeping active through dodgeball, basketball and hockey.
We have also warmly welcomed our new Year 7 students, who have settled in very well. It has been lovely to see them supported by older student mentors, and this guidance will continue into Term 2.
Electives have provided students with valuable opportunities to learn new skills and explore their interests. In Technology with Mr Wunderwald, SU7 students investigated engineering systems and explored famous structures such as the Titanic, bridges and towers. SU8 students enjoyed French with Ms Kelly, developing their language skills and learning about French culture. In Visual Arts with Ms Cruz, SU9 students created clay artworks inspired by Australian animals, including kangaroos, koalas, birds and marine life. CAPA students also participated in a range of creative activities with the support of Ms Fitzgerald and Ms McGill.
Our senior students have also taken part in a variety of engaging electives. In Food Technology with Ms Barry and Ms Daisley, students prepared a range of entrées including bruschetta, fruit skewers and sushi rolls, while working together and making choices about fillings and ingredients. Senior students also participated in Music, exploring different genres and musical activities, and in Work and Community with Mr Wunderwald and Ms O’Shea, where they developed important skills for future employment and community participation.
The Support Unit garden is also a work in progress, with students enthusiastically helping to develop and care for the space as it continues to grow.
We are very proud of the way our students have started the year and look forward to seeing their continued growth and success throughout 2026.
