Wellbeing at the End of Term 1

As Term 1 comes to a close, it's a great opportunity to pause, reflect, and recharge. The first term of school can be exciting and busy for children as they settle into new routines, friendships, and learning experiences. School holidays are an important time for rest, connection, and family time.

The Importance of Rest and Connection

  • Rest matters: After weeks of learning, routines, and activities, children (and parents!) benefit from time to slow down and recharge. Adequate sleep, unstructured play, and time to relax can support emotional wellbeing and prepare children for a strong start to Term 2.
  • Stay connected: Keeping in touch with school friends over the holidays helps maintain social connections and gives children a sense of belonging and continuity.
  • Family time: Whether it’s a day out or simply playing a game at home, spending quality time together strengthens relationships and supports positive mental health.

Fun Ideas for the Holidays

Here are a few simple, low-cost ideas to help families enjoy the break together:

  • Go on a nature walk or explore a local park
  • Have a picnic in the backyard or at a nearby reserve
  • Visit your local library for holiday programs or new books
  • Get creative with craft, painting, or building something together
  • Bake a favourite recipe or try a new one as a family
  • Have a movie night with homemade popcorn
  • Plan a ‘screen-free day’ with games, puzzles, and outdoor play

Wishing all our families a safe, happy, and restful holiday break!
