Connect: Year 5

HAPPY EASTER

As the term draws to a close we would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Easter and reflect on Term One highlights.

TERM ONE HIGHLIGHTS

Meet the teacher and twilight sports was a great chance for us to get to know everyone.

Students have really enjoyed our class novel, Runt. Each week they have been keen to continue reading as chapters leave us on a cliff hanger, wanting to know more. Through this novel they have increased their understanding of  droughts and the Australian outback.  Themes of kindness, resilience and family have been explored with the students making connections between the text and their own lives. During week 1, term 2 we will conclude our Reading journey by watching the movie of the book and comparing and contrasting the two.

Everyone has become very efficient at completing Spelling Mastery and the routines involved in the program.

Lightning Premiership was a success with students demonstrating a positive attitude attitude and great sportsmanship. The improvement in their skills throughout the term was amazing.

NAPLAN - Completed.

What the students have to say about Term One........

Without a doubt a highlight for the students was Lightning Premiership.

" My highlight was Lightning Premiership because there were so many schools that we could verse. We sadly didn't win but it was super fun to play and cheer on our team mates."

"My highlight was Lightning Prem because it was my first time and also I love cricket."

STEAM was also a highlight for many during Term One.

"My highlight was doing Stop Motion because I had fun with my friends and it helped my team building skills. "

Learning new Maths

"My highlight for Term One is when the maths got hard or I don't like the strategy. I gave it a go, then my teacher helps me and now I understand the strategy."

"My highlight for Term One was the new maths we learnt."

TERM TWO

As we move into next  term we look forward to exploring non fiction texts, descriptive writing, time, probability, decimals and fractions and earth and the solar system.  We look forward to a productive and exciting term.
