Performing Arts News

Claire Toffolon

Our school's performing arts program has kicked off with tremendous energy this year, especially as we settle into our new building and Performing Arts Centre! The choir delivered a beautiful performance at our opening Mass, while our Concert Band is diligently preparing for their upcoming assembly performance and the eisteddfod competition in June. Excitement is also building around this year's school play, with auditions already underway and enthusiastic participation from students across all year levels.

We're excited to announce the formation of a new Rock Band, adding diversity to our musical offerings. Our Year 7 students studying music this semester have received their instruments and begun lessons, with plans to form bands within their classes.

Things are stirring in the drama realm too. In class, drama students from year 7 to 10 have been working on scenes to present at the end-of-semester exhibition evening. Students who wish to participate in the school play this year have joined in 'come-and-try sessions' with rehearsal scripts in hand to audition for a role.

Rehearsal Schedule:

  • Monday: Choir

  • Tuesday: Year 7 Concert Band

  • Wednesday: Drama Play Rehearsals

  • Thursday: Concert Band & Rock Band

Music Lessons

Music lessons have begun for the year, with some vacancies still available. New lesson enrolments would begin in Term 2. Lessons are subsidised by the school at the following rates:

  • $10 for a 30-minute group lesson

  • $20 for an individual 30-minute lesson

  • Woodwind and brass lessons are FREE for Year 7 and 8 students

Remember, students taking instrumental lessons are expected to participate in a relevant ensemble. This participation is crucial for developing performance skills and applying what you're learning in your lessons in a collaborative setting.

Our Specialist Teachers:

  • Flute - Mrs Leesa Clark

  • Clarinet/Saxophone - Ms Tracey Ballard

  • Brass - Mr Chris Cole

  • Piano/Trumpet - Mrs Francine Bell

  • Singing - Mr Craig Everingham

  • Drums/Guitar - Mr Adam McCarron

Why Join Performing Arts?

Being part of our performing arts program offers numerous benefits beyond simply making music or performing on stage. Students develop crucial teamwork skills, build confidence through public performance, and form lasting friendships with peers who share their interests.

Whether in drama or music, participants learn to express themselves creatively while developing discipline and perseverance. Research consistently shows that arts participation enhances academic performance across subjects, improves memory, and develops skills that extend to all areas of life.

Whether you're a seasoned performer or just starting your artistic journey, there's a place for you in our performing arts program. Come join us in making this year our most creative yet!
