Year 6 Empathy Lesson: The Ripple Effect of Kindness

Hi, this is Daniella and Skyla and we are going to be telling you what we have been doing in the Resilience Project in the past two weeks. To start off with, we have been doing an activity called the ripple effect. The ripple effect is when you do a joyful, kind and caring act on someone else. That act of kindness repeats itself to someone else, creating a ripple effect. We did an activity about this, us as a class had to brainstorm and write acts of kindness and empathy for our community school friends and family.

The second Resilience Project activity we have been doing is learning about oxytocin. Oxytocin is when you do something positive and you feel good about yourself and what you have done. That releases oxytocin in your body! For our activity we had to write some positive things that release oxytocin. Now isn't that just so cool!

Now remember, during these activities always stay positive and have the right mindset throughout the whole experience. Staying positive will always have a good outcome on yourself and people around you, because they will see you being a positive human being and they’ll want to do the same! Always and I mean always remember that!!!

Here are some simple and meaningful acts of kindness that primary school students can do:

For Friends & Classmates

  1. Share school supplies with a friend who forgot theirs.
  2. Invite someone to join a game at recess.
  3. Give a genuine compliment to a classmate.
  4. Help a friend understand a tricky lesson.
  5. Make a "get well soon" card for an absent classmate.

For Teachers & School Staff

  1. Say “thank you” to your teacher at the end of the day.
  2. Help clean up the classroom without being asked.
  3. Hold the door open for a teacher or visitor.
  4. Draw a kind picture or write a note for a staff member.
  5. Follow school rules to make the teacher’s job easier.

For the School Community

  1. Pick up litter around the schoolyard.
  2. Help younger students find their way or tie their shoes.
  3. Smile and say hello to someone who looks lonely.
  4. Donate books, toys, or extra school supplies.
  5. Create a kindness poster for the hallways.

Would your class like to turn some of these into a kindness challenge? 😊

Exciting Wellbeing Project – Look Out for Our Joy BOTS!

As part of our wellbeing work this year, our students and teachers have been creating Joy BOTS—small, creative robots designed to spread happiness, positivity, and kindness throughout our school community. Each Joy BOT is unique, decorated with uplifting messages, bright colors, and thoughtful details to bring a smile to everyone who sees them.

These wonderful creations will soon be part of a whole-school display, and we can’t wait to share them with you! Keep an eye out for this special showcase, celebrating joy, creativity, and the importance of wellbeing in our school.
