From the Principal's Desk

'Fasting' during Lent (Pope Francis)
Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries and have trust in God.
Fast from complaints; contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness; fill your hearts with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate.
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words be silent and listen.
Dear Lord, guide our decisions today and bless us with your peace, joy and love. Amen.
Building Resilience in Our Children
At Resurrection School, we believe that resilience is one of the most important skills children can develop to navigate life's challenges. Resilience helps children bounce back from setbacks, manage stress, and maintain a positive attitude even when things are challenging.
Resilience is one of our three Reskeys along with Respect and Responsibility. Students are taught what each of the Reskeys looks like in all aspects of school life: learning spaces, outdoor spaces, gathering spaces, cyber or digital spaces, amenities, in the community and across all of the school. Examples of resilience in learning spaces are: being persistent and learning from mistakes. There are daily opportunities at school for students to build their resilience, such as: persisting with challenging tasks, being a gracious winner or loser in a game, navigating friendships or, for our Year 5 and 6 students, preparing for a wonderful experience at our three-day camp at Mt Evelyn early in Term 2.
At home families can work on building resilience by teaching children to:
- Stay Positive: Encourage children to focus on what they can control and to find the silver lining in challenging situations.
- Develop Problem-Solving Skills: Let children try solving problems on their own before stepping in. This builds confidence and independence.
- Practise Self-Care: Teaching children the importance of rest, healthy eating, and exercise can help them manage stress and stay emotionally balanced.
- Learn from Mistakes: It’s okay to fail! Mistakes are valuable learning experiences that help children grow stronger and more determined.
- Be Kind to Themselves: Teach children to practise self-compassion and treat themselves with the same kindness they show to others.
We encourage all families to reinforce these ideas at home, providing a supportive environment where children feel safe to express their feelings and learn from life’s challenges. You may have your own strategies for building resilience in your own child.
Together, we can help build a generation of resilient, confident, and empowered young people.
