Principal's Message
Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser
6 months ago, Mr Doyle (Stage 3 AP) and Tas Alam (P&C President) completed a training workshop for our school on a Saturday morning. They did this so that they could run the Bunnings BBQ last weekend.
Mr Hade, Mr Doyle, Tas, Mrs V and many of the Year 6 parents and P&C members gave up their day on Saturday and raised more than $2000 as a result of this awesome effort. These funds will go towards reducing the cost of the Year 6 Excursion for every single student.
Sincere thanks to all of the people who gave up their time:
Outstanding leadership Mr Doyle!
Thank you to Tas and the P&C!
Thank you to Mrs Bull and the front office staff for your excellent support!
PBL Lesson - Bus Behaviour
Our next (Positive Behaviour for Learning) PBL lesson in Weeks 11, 1 and 2 will be focused on Bus Behaviour. This lesson will be based around the NSW Transport Code of Conduct for students.
https://transportnsw.info/document/5577/201907guidelines-managing-school-student-behaviour-buses.pdf
The lesson will go through the responsibilities of the various stakeholders, but most importantly the expectations of student behaviour. Within the parental responsibilities, the Code of Conduct states that parents have the responsibility of ensuring that their child understands the Code of Conduct. Below is a summary of the most relevant expectations. Please go through these with your child.
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS ON BUSES
It is every student’s responsibility to behave in a manner that ensures the safety and comfort of passengers and drivers.
- Use appropriate language,
- Fighting, spitting, feet on seats, throwing things in or from the bus is not permitted,
- No eating or drinking (other than water) – unless for medical reasons or the bus operator gives written permission,
- Offer seats to adults including people with a disability, elderly or expectant mothers,
- Do not touch, push or shove other people,
- Do not bully or harass other passengers or the driver,
- Avoid attracting the attention of the driver except in the case of emergency,
- Do not play music at such volume that it may distract the bus driver or other passengers,
- Obey reasonable directions from the driver (e.g. where to sit or to remain in the bus),
- Remain in your seat – do not move around the bus unnecessarily,
- If standing, remain behind the front passenger seat and keep a secure hand hold at all times,
- Keep bags and other items clear of the aisle,
- Do not allow any part of your body to protrude out of the bus at any time,
- Wait for the bus in a quiet and orderly manner – including at bus interchanges,
- Stand away from the roadside until the bus comes to a complete stop,
- Allow other passengers to leave the bus before stepping onto the bus in a single line,
- Wait until the bus stops before moving to get off the bus at your designated stop,
- Wait until the bus leaves the stop and you have clear vision before crossing the road,
- Cross the road where and when it’s safe to do so, use crossings/traffic lights where available,
- Wear the seat belt properly adjusted and fastened, if one is available,
- Ensure that buses are not vandalised – report any damage, e.g. graffiti and window etching, to the driver and
- Do not leave rubbish on the bus, or at bus stops or interchanges.
It is important that parents report any of these incidents to their respective bus companies in the first instance, and then to the school so that we can follow through where it is appropriate to do so.
Easter Hat Parade
Our students are all very excited about the Easter Hat Parade coming up on the last day of term. Parents are invited to join us on the playground for a picnic lunch and to spend some time with their children during the lunchbreak before the Easter Hat Parade. We are looking forward to a fun last day of term.
Picnic Lunch: 10.50- 11.40
Parade & Easter Raffle: 12:00 - 12.30
To help you find your children, students will be in the following areas during their 10 minute eating time between 10:50 am and 11:00 am. After that time, they will be very difficult to find in the sea of yellow on the playground.
K-2: Play Equipment area at the top of the oval.
3-4: Hall COLA
5-6: Around the Tallowwood Tree
NAPLAN and Cyclone Alfred
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and commend the resilience and outstanding behaviour exhibited by Boambee Public School students during recent challenges.
Navigating the NAPLAN testing period is always a demanding time, and our students and staff maintained focus and effort despite being significantly disrupted by the cyclone and ongoing rain. Following on from this, our students have experienced almost 2 weeks of wet weather duty, not being able to get out onto the playground and run around. With 2 classes experiencing water damage and needing to be relocated.
Our Boambee Public School students ability to adapt and persevere through these difficult circumstances reflects the strong spirit of Boambee Public School.

Harmony Day
Harmony Day for Boambee Public school will be celebrated on Wednesday April 2nd. Harmony Day is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
If any parents/carers would like to present to the class and share their personal cultural background, we are inviting you to make contact with your class teacher via Seesaw so that we can allocate you some time on Harmony Day. Harmony Day visits and presentations will occur between 9-10 am. Please note that the date does not align with actual Harmony Day due to the cyclone disruptions, NAPLAN, Interviews and other planned events.
Communication with Teachers
Boambee Public School teachers are amazing, utilising our Seesaw app regularly to share learning and communicate with parents.
If you have an urgent question or communication for your child's teacher, you should call the office. For example - a message about a pickup change may not be seen by a teacher in the middle of the day, potentially resulting in a child on the wrong bus. A day in the life of a teacher is extremely busy and they may not check Seesaw messages every day, they are certainly not expected to be checking them when they are at home with their families. A reasonable timeframe for a response on Seesaw is 24-48 hours.
If you would like to request a meeting with your child's teacher, please request a meeting via Seesaw or the front office. Arriving unannounced before a school day asking to speak to a teacher is not a suitable time. Teachers are getting ready to deliver for the day, requiring resource set up, essential communications with colleagues, administration and possibly before school duties. These responsibilities require 100% of our teacher’s attention and they are unable give a parent conversation the attention it deserves during this time, unless they have the opportunity to be prepared.
