READING

In Reading, we’re exploring a range of strategies and skills to help students become thoughtful, critical readers. This term, one of our key focuses is understanding the author’s purpose—why a text was written and what message the author wants to communicate. Students are learning to identify whether the author aims to inform, entertain, or persuade, and support their thinking with evidence from the text.

We are also learning how to use text clues to make thoughtful predictions—especially when imagining what could happen next in a sequel. Students are identifying key events and character decisions, and using this information to justify what they think might happen next in the story.

Another focus this term has also been on First Nations vocabulary and how it enriches our understanding of Australian culture and perspectives. Students are learning to identify and discuss Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander words used in texts, reflect on their meanings, and consider how this vocabulary deepens the cultural significance and impact of the story.

In Writing, we’re beginning the term by exploring character analysis, helping students build engaging and well-developed characters in their narratives. We're also revisiting key grammar concepts, such as conjunctions, apostrophes, and commas, to improve sentence fluency and clarity in their writing.

In Maths, our focus is on adding and subtracting fractions with both like and unlike denominators. Students will be using visual models and number strategies to develop a deeper understanding of these concepts.

Our Discovery unit this term is all about natural disasters. Students will explore the causes and impacts of events such as bushfires, earthquakes, floods, and cyclones, and examine how communities respond and recover.

Lastly, our Year 6 students received their 2025 school uniforms, (thank you Mrs Lytton!) proudly recognising their leadership within our school community. Thank you Mrs Lytton!

We’re looking forward to a positive and productive term ahead. Thank you for your continued support, and please keep an eye on Compass for updates and reminders throughout the term.
