              WELCOME BACK for Term 2!

The Grade 3/4 team would like welcome you back for another terrific term here at PVNPS. Our enthusiastic students have returned to school full of energy as they delve straight into new topics and learning experiences. The past two weeks have been filled with fun and engaging activities that target various areas of the curriculum.

Literacy

In Reading, students explored the significance of ANZAC Day by partaking in rich discussions and activities surrounding the picture story book, ANZAC Ted. They developed a deeper understanding of the stories and symbols that have been told through generations as a sign of remembrance. They have also kicked off a new novel study, Yirra and her Deadly Dog, Demon. This book tells a culturally significant story about a young Aboriginal girl who learns goes through life trying to learn more about her Aboriginal culture and language.

The exploration of this book ties wonderfully with their Writing unit as students begin to research and write factual recounts about the Aboriginal Flag; learning about it's origins, meaning and importance to Australia's First Nations people.

Mathematics

In Maths, students have begun their unit on addition and subtraction. They've engaged in multiple ways of learning maths; through problem solving equations, worded problems and maths games. They have practiced a range of efficient strategies, including the split strategy, jump strategy and the vertical algorithm. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and accuracy grow as they experiment with these new methods.

Discovery

This term, students have shown great excitement as they begin our new Discovery Learning unit on Climate and Weather.  So far, they've enjoyed observing and describing weather patterns and exploring Australia's various climate zones. To deepen their understanding of this unit, they're eagerly looking forward to their upcoming excursion to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX in week 4. They'll be able to explore climate in more detail through engaging exhibitions and films.

Typing Club

In addition to their classroom learning, students have also been engaging with Typing Club, an online program designed to help them build essential typing and computing skills. As they prepare for a range of digital projects throughout the term, Typing Club offers a fun and interactive way for students to develop accuracy, speed and confidence when using a keyboard. It has been fantastic to see their progress!

It's shaping up to be an exciting and inspiring term of learning! We look forward to sharing more of the students' achievements and discoveries in the weeks ahead.
