Paper packaging - Nestle and other chocolate brands

Nestle have recently introduced 'paper' product packaging.

  • No, they are NOT just paper.
  • This packaging, and other varieties, contain a thin plastic liner stuck on the inside of the paper.
  • The lined plastic layer is there for maintaining hygiene and to reduce oxidization.
  • Typically, products that contain a thin layer of plastic like coffee cups, Pringles cylinders, milk cartons cannot be recycled.

Based on this information the packaging should NOT be recycled in the City of Casey recycling bins. This packaging should go into landfill/ general waste rubbish bins.

It is very confusing packaging and advertising. While it is a great step in reducing plastic it does not eliminate plastic from production.
