Lifelong learners at St John's
Each newsletter we showcase the different ways we learn and teach at St John’s. This week we are putting the spotlight on some of the ways we partner with families in the learning experiences of the students.
In Semester One families were invited to create a patch work piece for our school Reconciliation Banner. Teachers from our Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)Team have been working hard sewing all the pieces together and have nearly completed the enormous task of creating a whole school quilt. Pictured below is Ms Audrey Bongetti and Ms Ashleigh Withers, ironing the quilt and holding our school’s Vision for Reconciliation. Both the quilt and vision statement will be hung on the walls in the Community Space.
The Year 6 students have been working very hard to create items to sell at their upcoming Bizarre Bazaar. They have visited all the classes to explain where the money raised is going to and to show off their wares. Items are priced from 50c - $2 and all money raised from the project will be given to a Catholic charity. Some of the products the Year 6’s will be selling include lip scrub, lucky dips, cupcakes, chocolate dipped marshmallows, key rings and many more fascinating items. The students will be selling their products in the Hall, tomorrow Wednesday 13th September. Students are invited to bring in a maximum of $2 to spend at the stalls.
Students from Mrs Fenech’s class have been working on a design for a school scarecrow for our veggie gardens. As you can see from the photo the scarecrow is nearly completed. With the season of Spring now upon us, students have planted out our garden beds with carrot, broccoli and lettuce seedlings. Our Maintenance Manager Mr Mark Page is a qualified horticulturist and when asked recently for some Spring gardening tips, he offered the following:
The Year 5s have been working on writing Procedural Texts. As part of the process they were testing out a range of instructions, including the steps used to bake biscuits. Some of the students from 5 King are pictured with a tray of biscuits ready for the oven.
