CERES Biodiversity Audit
Biodiversity Audit is an exercise in ecological information gathering used to know what we have at St Finbar’s
Pia from CERES came out last Friday to help Team Green from prep to 6 conduct a biodiversity audit.
Over all we are doing really well at St Finbar’s. Team green will be making bird and bee houses this term to encourage more wildlife into the school and look at the possibility of planting more indigenous plants to attract birds.
About the Aussie Bird Count
Aussie Backyard Bird Count (16–22 October)
The Aussie Bird Count aims to engage school communities in the natural world while getting to know the birds in their local schoolyard through participation in a simple, fun, all-ages activity that can be done anywhere.
By taking part in the Aussie Bird Count children will become citizen scientists. Citizen science creates opportunities for students to connect with the natural world, gain scientific skills, and learn about topics such as life cycles, habitats, adaptations, and interrelationships. This can be a gateway to many exciting discoveries and creates a partnership between the students and professional scientists to help answer questions scientists couldn’t answer on their own.
Melbirds ebook by Michael Livingstone and Cindy Hauser. Made for kids, this free ebook features 63 of the most easy-to-find bird species around Melbourne and is perfect for introducing kids to the birds of their area.
