Reducing our impact at EDSC

Did you know that 79 megatons of waste are discarded by Australians every year? And that Victoria's landfills are fast running out of space, leading to higher council rate costs.

The EDSC Environment Club is encouraging more people to reduce, reuse and recycle, and reminding everyone to bring reusable containers and cups for their lunch and coffee.

If you forget your cup though, have no fear - there are new coffee cup recycling stations in the Canteen and The JLC so you can recycle your coffee cups that would otherwise go to landfill.

You can also recycle your used stationery (pens, markers, whiteout containers, Textas) in the orange boxes in the Library, JLC and Middle School Open Area. We have already collected hundreds of pens that can be recycled instead of going to landfill.

Battery and milk top recycling are also available in the Library. By recycling you help to reduce waste going to landfill and ensure precious resources don't go to waste. Have a spring clean over the holidays and make use of our specialist recycling in the new term.

Manningham Council also offers specialist recycling at certain community hubs, including light globes, small e-waste, X-rays and printer cartridges. See here for more information:

Can you help the Environment Club?

We are expanding our Environment Club’s gardening program, creating a hands-on experience that fosters curiosity among our students. However, we need your help!

Do you have old gardening equipment lying around your garage or shed? Shovels, wheelbarrows, or any other tools that could be put to good use? We kindly request that you consider donating them to EDSC.

If you have something you would like to donate, please email Nicola Ritchie at nicola.ritchie@education.vic.gov.au

Thank you for your kindness and support.
