Year 10, 11 & 12

Assistant Principal's Report

Step Up interviews

Shortly, you will receive information regarding the College Step Up Parent/Carer-Tutor Teacher course confirmation interviews for 2024 Year’s 11 and 12 students.  These will be held on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th November, and you will be able to book a 30-minute interview to facilitate this.

There will be no classes for the 2023 Year 10 and 11 students over the two days of the interviews.

The purpose of this meeting is for parents/carers to meet 2024 Tutor Teachers and discuss important information for the following school year. Please note that this is a requirement for all students for re-enrolment into 2024.   Students will then commence their 2024 Step Up timetable from the 20th November until the 1st December.

Year 12 farewell

On Friday the 20th of October we celebrated the achievements of our Year 12 student’s and wished them farewell at the Valedictory dinner. On the night, we celebrated with families and friends, the many achievements of the class of 2023 and students were acknowledged for their academic achievement and presented with subject and excellence awards.

The night was a huge success and I would like to thank Ms. Tayla Clayton and the Year 12 team for the successful organisation of the night, along with the Year 12 teachers who contributed to the educational growth of the students to enable them to successfully complete Year 12.

I would like to thank the Year 12 students for their exemplary behaviour leading up to their celebration day, farewell assembly and the Valedictory dinner. Our students demonstrated the College values of Respect, Cooperation and Excellence all throughout this time by focusing on their education.

I wish the Class of 2023 all the very best wishes for their future studies and/or employment and if we can ever be of any assistance then please do not hesitate to contact the College.

Examinations

The Year 12 externally assessed VCAA examinations commenced on the 18th of October, beginning with the Languages. The remaining exams commence on Tuesday 24th October with English, followed by the rest of the exams which will conclude for our College on Wednesday 15th November. Our Year 12 students have been preparing for these exams all year and most recently with the internal exam period which has assisted with their preparation.

Year 11 exams commence on Wednesday 8th November until Wednesday 15th November and a letter with further details and the exam timetable has been sent home.

Year 11 and 12 students will only be required to attend school to sit their timetabled exam’s and are to remain home for study purposes at all other times.   Access to staff and facilities can be arranged if the student contacts their tutor teacher.

Year 10 exams commence on Thursday the 9th of November until Tuesday the 14th of November and all Year 10 students are expected to be at school during the whole school day as exam preparation will occur before each exam.

I would like to wish all students good luck with their upcoming exam’s.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 10

As we head into our final weeks of Year 10, our class of 2025 has been getting ready to study hard for their final exams.

In week one we welcomed Zac from Elevate Education who gave our students some practical tips for studying.  We will be doing follow up sessions in tutor time to help build our student’s study skills ahead of exams and beginning of their VCE journey. You can also help out by making sure your child has a good place in the house to study after school and reducing their outside commitments. If you’d like more practical tips from the team at Elevate you can register for a free parent webinar at:

Parent Info | Elevate Education

Our exam period runs from Thursday the 9th of November to Tuesday the 14th of November. Just like all other school days it is compulsory for students to attend on these days and sit their exams. More information about exams will be sent out to parents in the coming week.

Finally, our Year 10 team has been working together to create activities to respond to student feedback that they wanted what they were learning to link to their lives. Across a range of subjects we have embedded activities and discussions about making those links to life. For example, we have been looking at how argument analysis in English relates to current debates in the news, or how measuring space and volume in Maths relates to different jobs. You can help by talking to your child about what topics they are learning and helping them research how they link to real world situations. Together this will help further enrich their learning here at Wyndham Central College and help prepare them for life after school.

If you have any questions or need assistance, your child’s tutor teacher is your first point of contact. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team if you have any questions.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 11

In preparation for upcoming exams commencing on the 8th of November, Year 11 students have been completing their final assessments for Year 11 in 2023, in the coming weeks, students will also be completing exam revision for their subjects as they prepare themselves for end of year exams. The end of year exams are crucial in supporting students to develop the study and academic skills to complete Year 12 internal and external examinations in 2024. Exam time can bring on additional stress and anxiety for students and it is important to develop a routine to ensure that students are finding balance between their academic focus and their leisure and peer time, enabling them to be well prepared.

Some strategies for young people and parents/carers have been listed below to support your child over the coming month:

For young people:

  • Stay organised with to-do lists and study timetables.
  • Get as much sleep as possible.
  • Have a dedicated study space.

For parents/carers:

  • Encourage them to keep doing the activities they did before exams.
  • Go on study breaks walks with them and try to cook nutritious meals.
  • Help them set up a study space and help the rest of the family understand the importance.

Key dates for the remainder of term:

  • Exam period; Wednesday 8th of November – Wednesday 15th of November
  • Year 12 Goal Setting Interviews; Thursday 16th of November and Friday 17th of November
  • Year 12 Step Up; Monday 20th of November – Friday 1st of December

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 12

The Year 12 cohort finished their classes last week with many celebratory activities, finalising 13 years of schooling.

It is the beginning of a new chapter of their lives which is very exciting!

I would like to thank the Year 12 students who completed their VCE, VIP and VCAL studies over the course of the last two years. The determination, resilience and commitment to their studies have been admirable.  As I mentioned at the Year 12 Valedictory our students have faced challenges and hardships but kept persevering right to the end.

Celebration Week

Year 12 Celebration Week was a huge success, students went to Funfields on Tuesday 17th October.  On Thursday 19th October we had a shared breakfast and sent them off with the annual Year 12 Assembly held in our college gymnasium. Finally, onFriday 20th October, to conclude their schooling journey we had the Valedictory Dinner at Grandstar in Altona where students were formally acknowledged for their 13 years of education in front of proud parents/guardians and their proud teachers. It was a great night, seeing the students so happy and dressed up in their gowns or suits. A lot of acknowledgements were announced at Valedictory, and I would like to extend this again to all the Year 12 tutor teachers for supporting the students, to the families and school community, to our Principals for their support of our students and to our students themselves. It was an absolute pleasure watching these students grow and develop over the years and to see how far they have come.

I also wish to thank Mr Singh for his time and effort as the Year 12 Coordinator, to Ms De Domenico and Ms Cutter for making the Valedictory happen and to all staff members for their endless work in getting our students to the finish line.

Year 12 Examinations

The Year 12 Exams have begun.  Please ensure students are looking after themselves in this time; eating, getting enough sleep and staying hydrated. Ensure they have prepped the night before and arriving to the examination at least 20 minutes prior to the start time.

If your child is non scored and still has work overdue, they must still come to school, and work in our Resource Centre until this work is complete.

Finally, I hope those students who are not sitting exams have a lovely break.  To the students sitting exams good luck! I hope after the conclusion of the exams are done you are able to have a restful and well-deserved break.
