Year 8 & 9
Assistant Principal's Report
It’s been a productive start to term four and students are finishing up their class work and assessments and will shortly be into exams. It is important to keep strong routines going at home and ensure your children are getting proper nutrition and sleep. We know sleep hygiene can be an issue for young people as they like to stay up late on devices. However this really does have a negative impact on their ability to use their memory effectively, and at this time of the year they really do need to be able to harness those revision skills. Don’t be scared to turn off the wifi at the end of the evening.
Once exams are completed we will begin our 2024 transition with Middle Years goal setting and Step Up classes. More information will be circulated about this as the date gets closer, but essentially we are trying to set your children up for success by developing some SMART goals for the coming year, and by checking they have all the resources and supports needed to achieve these. During Step Up we commence the 2024 curriculum and your child will physically move classrooms, lockers and get a new timetable. Even though it is the end of the year we find that young people can become really invigorated by the changes and this can have a really positive impact for student outcomes.
Following Step Up there will be an end of year's activity program where your children will have the chance to go on an excursion to Adventure Park. There will also be an excursion to the Werribee swimming pool and bowls club. Additionally there will be activities at school before we finish up for the Summer break.
As always if you have any questions or feedback your first point of contact is your child’s tutor teacher. Following this you can contact the year level coordinator or year level leader.
Simply by reading the newsletter you are supporting your children and the school and I’d like to thank you for this.

Year 8 Report
The Year 8's have had an excellent start to term 4. They are now adept at running assemblies and we look forward to seeing more throughout the year.
Students of the week so far this term have been:
Xander Iles,
Jitin Kadagala,
Will Reeman,
Oliver Zilm,
Sofia Nan Soe Yadanar Thin,
Eh Soe Eh Soe
We had some beautiful and talented artwork displayed by year 8 students at the art show and students were then able to view and be inspired by these artworks. Thank you to the Arts department for running this event and for their hard work in showcasing our talented students.
On 16th of October the U16 boys and girls competed in the Futsal Spring State Titles at Victoria University Community Stadium, West Footscray. Our boys won the final and are State Champions for Spring, our girls also won a final and finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd overall. Eh Soe Soe, Htwa Reh, Matias Tapia and Samantha Raka participated and should be congratulated for their efforts.
Throughout this month the enrichment students have been working hard on their enrichment projects creating presentations about an inspiring topic and have the freedom to choose how they present these topics. There are plays, displays, projects, games and even a light saber! Well done to all involved.
The school generously runs free of charge an after-school sports and cooking program which run 3:20 to 4:20pm midweek. We have a number of year 8 students eagerly participating in these. On Tuesday there is volleyball, Wednesday there is cooking and Thursday there is tennis. There are still a few spots left and if you feel that your child would benefit from this opportunity, please ask them to speak to Ms Smith and/or Ms Sandlant.
Just a friendly reminder about the Semester two exams for Year 8 which occur on November 29th and 30th. Students will have time to revise and have a revision session before their exam. These exams help our students prepare for VCE examinations.
Could we please ask that you continue to do RAT tests on your child as there is still COVID in the community. RAT kits are available upon request from the year 8 administration office.
I’d like to thank the year 8 team for supporting the cohort. Everyday I am humbled by the effort and dedication that our staff show in supporting the educational, social and emotional needs of students.
We look forward to supporting you child/children throughout their time at Wyndham Central College.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9
Term 4 has started off on a bright note for our Year 9's. We kicked it all off with our Term 3 celebration assembly on Friday the 13th of October, and it was wonderful to recognise our 'Students of the Week' so far!
Congratulations to the students below:
Week 10 (Term 3) – Kai Ramm
Week 1 – Kimiora Tapia 9J
Week 2 – Logan Brooks 9S
Week 3 – Mason Morris 9H
We also recognised our Term 3 joint MVP (most valuable pupil) award, which went to Zaynab Hussein of 9G and Pam Vichittavong of 9S. This award celebrated the consistent display of the school values throughout term 3, which lead to a great seven student of the week nominations across the term!
The cohort wide focus on the value of Respect has continued this term. Each Tuesday and Friday morning, students have engaged in various respect scenarios, analysing the level of respect shown with the assistance of our traffic light protocol. This has helped our students to enhance their learning about how respect can be shown and developed through both our words and actions. Along with this, at the conclusion of each assembly, we set a ‘Respectful action of the week’ for the whole cohort to focus on, be it a respectful greeting or ensuring we are prepared for class.
As we head into the business end of the term, we are working towards finishing off our time in Year 9 in the best possible way and look ahead to the challenge of exams motivated and ready to achieve our potential.
