Wellbeing and Digital Technologies:  This 30-minute webinar is designed for parents and carers of young people in secondary school. It will focus on the digital skills to protect and support young people’s wellbeing online.

Term 4 dates (Australian Eastern Daylight Time)

  • 24 October: 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm 
  • 15 November: 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm
  • 5 December: 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm

Getting the most out of gaming:  This 45-minute webinar provides families with strategies for supporting children and young people to have safe, positive experiences when playing games online. It is designed for parents and carers of children aged 7 to 14.

It will cover:   

  • when gaming can be beneficial and strategies to promote better in-game experiences
  • how to keep children safe online – using safety and privacy settings in games and platforms
  • strategies to promote more balanced gaming and how to create smoother transitions from game-play to other activities
  • the key online risks and where to find help for things like bullying and harassment in games.

  • 19 October: 12:30 pm to 1:15 pm

Navigating online friendships: This 30-minute webinar is designed for parents and carers of young people in secondary schooI.

It will cover:

  • how to support young people to have safe and respectful online relationships
  • what to do when something happens at school and ends up on social media or private messaging apps 
  • how to report to social media platforms and eSafety.

  • 18 October: 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm  
  • 2 November: 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm

Getting started with social media: This 30-minute webinar is designed for parents and carers of young people in primary and secondary school. It includes practical tech tips, conversation starters and digital parenting advice.

It will cover:

  • creating a positive digital identity
  • privacy and sharing online
  • managing what you see online
  • good practices in group chats
  • help-seeking.

Applications open for the eSafety Youth Council

Do you know a young person aged 13-24 who is passionate about making a difference? 

Applications are open for the eSafety Youth Council. This is great opportunity for young people to share their voices with industry leaders and government to help us understand what a safer online world could look like, ensuring it resonates with and protects younger generations. 

By joining the eSafety Youth Council, young people have the opportunity to: 

  • Co-design programs, policies and develop content that promotes a safer online environment for their generation. 
  • Work with government and leaders in the industry. 
  • Develop their professional skillset through learning opportunities. 

We’re looking for young people aged 13 to 24 from all over Australia with a range of personalities and backgrounds. Application responses can be submitted in written or other creative form, such as video, audio, poster, song - a great way to engage young people on online safety issues. Applications close 1 December 2023

Join the eSafety Youth Council

eSafety seeks new members for the Youth Council every two years.

If you’re passionate about having your voice heard, helping other young people to have positive experiences online and working as part of a team, then this is the perfect opportunity for you.

What is the eSafety Youth Council?

The eSafety Youth Council is made up of young people who have a range of lived experiences, come from various places across Australia and represent different gender identities and cultures.

eSafety is committed to amplifying the voice of the Council and providing the opportunity for meaningful input to policies and programs. In doing this, eSafety facilitates and supports Council members to share their vision of what a safer and more positive online world could look like.

Who are we looking for?

eSafety is looking for young people who are Australian residents aged between 13 and 24 years with diverse backgrounds, life experiences and locations to apply for the eSafety Youth Council.

We aren’t looking for the loudest voice – we’re looking for a range of personalities, leadership styles and backgrounds.

You do not need to have experience – you only need to want to participate and use your voice.

What to expect as a Youth Council member?

You should expect to actively participate in and contribute to a range of activities and discussions during Council meetings. This includes sharing your experiences and exploring new ways to create more positive online experiences for young people.

You will meet with other young people from across Australia who are also interested in finding solutions to the online safety issues that are affecting young people. You will be offered opportunities to develop your leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

What is required in the role?

  • A willingness to actively contribute to and participate in Council activities and discussions.
  • A commitment to attend four meetings during the year (online and in-person).
  • Access to a computer and reliable internet for online meetings.
  • For young people under the age of 18, parent/guardian consent is needed to apply for the Council.
  • For young people 18 and over, a valid Working with Children check (WWCC) is needed (relevant to your state/territory).
