Southern Metro Cricket finals:

Our Year 7 and 8 Girls cricket teams headed off to Dandenong to compete at SMR finals after winning Northern peninsula division in Term 1.

Both teams were extremely competitive, showing amazing talent and sportsmanship throughout the day. Our Year 7 team finished third and our Year 8 girls finished the day undefeated!

Our year 8 girls head off to State Quarter finals in Wonthaggi!

Southern Metro Intermediate Girls Basketball Finals:

Our Intermediate Girls Basketball Team headed off to Dandenong Basketball Stadium this week to compete at the SMR finals competing against other Divisional Winners in our region.

We had 3 very close win in our pool games which gave a spot in the Grand Final playing against Berwick College’s Basketball Academy. These wins were highlighted by Caitlin Burridge’s game-winning 3 pointer against McKinnon to book our spot in the Final. As well as, Molly Gilligan and Mahli Harwood putting their bodies on the line all day, diving on loose balls and drawing charges and Zoe De Amyand scoring buckets all day to have a huge impact on the teams success throughout the pool games.

We started off the Final really well going back and forth with Berwick with help by Caitlin Burridge who scored our first 12 points of the game without missing a shot. The girls continued to play outstanding but Berwick got a few shots in front and held their lead. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result we were after but the girls played really well all day and should be super proud of their efforts.

Southern Metro Year 8 Girls Hockey:

Our Year 8 Girls Hockey Team headed off to Hawthorn-Malvern Hockey Centre to compete at SMR finals. There girls made the finals after playing one game and winning against Frankston at our Divisional Finals.

These girls have been committed and dedicated by training twice a week at lunchtimes for a few months and have continued to build and better their skills. Their effort and commitment really showed as they out played all their opponents by winning by multiples goals through the whole day to become the Southern Metropolitan Regional Champions and heading off to the State Championships which will be held at Footscray Hockey Centre on the 10th of November.

All the girls played their role perfectly with every goal being scored by a different player which proves the talent we have on the team and the hard work they have all put in during lunchtimes. Our goal-keeper Caitlyn McAuliffe was amazing all day, not letting through a single goal.

Congratulations to all the girls who competed! Keep working hard and good luck at the State Championships.

State Athletics:

A couple weeks ago, we were off to the State Athletics Championships at the Victorian Institute of Sport to support Alex Healy who was competing for the 14 Girls Discus and 14 Girls Shot Put after winning these events at the SMR Finals.

Alex remained very calm as we were waiting for her first event, Discus, to start. She competed very well against some talented Discus throwers, resulting in her coming 6th. Then we headed over to her Shot Put event where she was outstanding, holding second spot until the last round where she unfortunately dropped down to 4th on the last 2 throws of the day.

Being 6th in the State for Discus and 4th in the State for Shot Put is a tremendous achievement and we are all very proud of Alex.

Great work Alex!

Southern Metro Year 8 Boys Hockey:

This week the Year 8 Boys Hockey Team headed off to the SMR Finals at Hawthorn-Malvern Hockey Centre to defend their title. Last year the boys made it to the State Finals and that was their goal again this year.

These boys have been training nearly every day since the start of the year. This boys have been determined and committed after making the State Championships last year. With the assistance of their coach Ciro Ferra, these boys have been working on their skills all year. Their love for the game has resulted in a number of them joining a hockey club outside of school, which is amazing!

The boys played really well with 2 good wins in their pool games, winning 3-0 and 1-0, which ultimately booked our spot in the Final. The Final was a tight game, ending full time with the score 1-1. We then went to extra time, which was a hard fought battle where there was no goals scored to remain at 1-1, which means we had to head off to a penalty shoot-out.

A lot of pressure went down to our goal keeper Jye Mitchell, who has only let 1 goal scored on him all day. The opposition had some close misses at the start of their penalty shoot-out and our boys remained calmed and scored 3 goals in the penalty shoot-out, resulting in us becoming the Regional Champions by a 3-0 win the penalty shoot-out.

The boys will play again in the State Championships at Footscray in a couple of weeks. Good luck boys!
