As the term draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Mathematics Faculty to wish our Kellyville High School students’ and their families an enjoyable school holiday.

In the classroom – Ms Farooque 

Students in the Year 9 MAT1 class have been using ATOMI to extend their learning beyond the regular curriculum. Through carefully selected problem-solving activities and non-routine questions, students are challenged to think critically, apply mathematical concepts in unfamiliar situations and develop perseverance when tackling complex problems.

The use of ATOMI also provides variety in the classroom, allowing students to move beyond traditional textbook exercises. By engaging with interactive tasks and challenging investigations, students are exposed to different styles of mathematical thinking, helping to maintain motivation and enthusiasm for learning. This variety ensures that students do not experience the monotony of completing textbook questions every day while still developing strong mathematical foundations.

The platform provides opportunities for students to explore multiple solution strategies, learn from worked examples, and receive immediate feedback on their thinking. By engaging with these higher-order questions, students are strengthening their reasoning, communication and analytical skills—key competencies for success in mathematics and beyond.

The enthusiasm shown by students has been impressive, with many embracing the challenge of difficult problems and demonstrating increased confidence in their mathematical abilities. ATOMI continues to be a valuable tool in supporting our goal of developing independent, resilient, and creative problem-solvers.
