Interested in TVET or an SBAT for 2027?
Year 10 students are encouraged to explore vocational pathways available for Years 11 and 12. TVET (TAFE Delivered Vocational Education and Training) and School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) allow students to gain industry qualifications, practical skills and valuable workplace experience while completing their HSC.
What is TVET?
TVET courses are delivered through TAFE and allow students to complete a nationally recognised qualification while at school. Students typically attend TAFE one afternoon each week and the course contributes units towards the HSC. Many courses can also contribute to an ATAR.

What is an SBAT?
An SBAT combines school, paid employment and formal training. Students remain enrolled at school, work with an employer in their chosen industry and complete training through TAFE or another registered training organisation. The qualification contributes towards the HSC while students earn an income and gain industry experience.

Things to Consider
Students undertaking TVET or an SBAT need to be organised and committed. They must manage travel to training, attend all workplace requirements, communicate with teachers about missed lessons and keep up with schoolwork and assessment tasks.

Applications for 2027 pathways open on 27 July 2026. Students should begin researching options now, consider their future goals and discuss pathways with their parents, carers and teachers. Students can also make an appointment with Mrs Hicks in the Careers Office for individual pathway planning and advice.

White Card Training Opportunity
Kellyville High School will be hosting White Card training on Thursday 30 July. This nationally recognised qualification is required for anyone wishing to work on a construction site in Australia and is highly recommended for students considering careers in construction, engineering, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, carpentry, surveying and many other trades.
The course covers essential workplace health and safety knowledge, hazard identification and safe work practices. Students who successfully complete the training will receive a Statement of Training and can apply for their White Card.

Upcoming Career and Pathway Opportunities
Parents and carers are encouraged to discuss upcoming career, university, apprenticeship and training opportunities with their child. Over the coming weeks, a wide range of Open Days, career exploration programs, university webinars, competitions, apprenticeships and school holiday workshops are available for students across Years 10–12.
Opportunities include university Open Days, health and science career events, creative arts workshops, cyber security competitions, entrepreneurship programs, apprenticeship pathways with major employers, and early entry programs offered by universities and private colleges.
These experiences provide valuable opportunities for students to explore career interests, learn about post-school pathways, meet industry professionals and gain a better understanding of future study and employment options.
Students can access full details, application links, eligibility requirements and event dates through their Year 10, 11 or 12 Careers Google Classroom. New opportunities are added regularly, and students are encouraged to check their classroom each week to ensure they do not miss application deadlines.

Student Selected for AFP Forensics Work Experience Program
Congratulations to Year 12 student Julia Pagaduan on her successful application to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Forensics Work Experience Program.
Following a competitive application process, Julia has been offered a place in the prestigious program, which will be held at the AFP's Majura Complex in Canberra from 14–18 September 2026.
The program provides students with a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the field of forensic science and the important role forensic specialists play in criminal investigations. Participants will learn about forensic techniques, investigative processes and career pathways within the AFP and broader law enforcement sector.
Being selected for this program is a significant achievement and reflects Julia's strong interest in forensic science, her commitment to exploring career opportunities and the quality of her application.
We congratulate Julia on this outstanding accomplishment and wish her every success as she represents Kellyville High School in this exciting opportunity.
Transport for NSW STEMC Careers Day
A group of Kellyville High School students recently attended the Transport for NSW STEMC Careers Day at Rosehill Gardens, where they explored careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Construction (STEMC).
The event provided students with the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals and learn about the diverse range of careers that contribute to keeping NSW connected through transport infrastructure, technology and innovation.
Students participated in a variety of hands-on activities including train driving simulators, virtual reality experiences, drone technology demonstrations, cyber security displays and engineering exhibits. They also attended presentations and panel discussions featuring professionals from Transport for NSW, Sydney Trains and Sydney Metro who shared their career journeys and advice about future pathways.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity for several students to be interviewed by the Transport for NSW media team. Students reflected on what they enjoyed most about the event and how it broadened their understanding of career options within the transport industry.
The excursion helped students connect their interests in STEM subjects with real-world applications and provided valuable insight into university, apprenticeship, traineeship and graduate pathways available across the transport sector.
We thank Transport for NSW for hosting such an engaging and informative event and for inspiring our students to explore the many opportunities available in STEM careers.
UTS Business & Law Discovery Day
Year 12 students from Kellyville High School recently attended the UTS Business & Law Discovery Day at the University of Technology Sydney, providing them with the opportunity to explore a range of study and career pathways in business, economics, law, marketing and management.
Students participated in interactive workshops designed to showcase the diverse opportunities available within the Faculty of Business and Faculty of Law. Activities included a mock trial, law negotiation workshop, economics challenge, marketing workshop and business innovation sessions. Students also toured the UTS campus and gained insight into university life from current students and academic staff.
The experience allowed students to develop a deeper understanding of how university courses connect to future careers and the skills required in a range of professional industries.
Abbey Webster reflected on the day, saying, “One thing I learnt today was how the court system is structured and I got to act out a court case. I also enjoyed learning about the different degree opportunities in forensics and criminology.”
The excursion encouraged students to think critically about their post-school options and provided valuable information to assist with future course and career planning.

Students Showcase Innovation at Macquarie University Incubator
A group of Kellyville High School students recently participated in the Macquarie University Incubator, an immersive innovation experience that challenged students to think creatively, collaborate effectively and develop solutions to real-world problems.
Working in teams with students from other schools, participants followed the design thinking process from start to finish. They identified problems, researched user needs, generated ideas, developed prototypes and refined their solutions before presenting their final concepts to an audience.
The program provided students with valuable experience in teamwork, communication, problem-solving and entrepreneurial thinking. Throughout the day, Kellyville High School students demonstrated outstanding creativity, contributing innovative ideas and working collaboratively with their peers to develop practical and engaging solutions.
The experience culminated in team presentations, where students confidently pitched their ideas and showcased the skills they had developed throughout the program. Our students represented Kellyville High School exceptionally well, displaying confidence, professionalism and a willingness to embrace new challenges.
The Macquarie University Incubator provided an excellent opportunity for students to experience innovation in action while developing future-focused skills that will benefit them in both their education and future careers.
HP Career Readiness Day Inspires Students
Kellyville High School students recently attended the HP Career Readiness Day, an exciting industry experience that provided valuable insights into future careers, workplace skills and emerging technologies.
The event featured a unique focus on HP's partnership with Ferrari Formula 1, highlighting how technology, innovation and teamwork drive success both on and off the racetrack. Students heard from industry professionals about career pathways in technology, business, marketing and engineering, while learning about the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing workforce.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity for students to participate in an application process for a future internship opportunity, allowing them to experience the recruitment process and gain insight into what employers look for in candidates.
Students represented Kellyville High School with maturity and enthusiasm throughout the event. A special mention goes to Madison, whose thoughtful and insightful questions during the presentations impressed the HP team. In recognition of her engagement, she was awarded a Ferrari Formula 1 team shirt and a miniature replica Ferrari Formula 1 car.
The day provided students with valuable industry connections, practical career advice and a greater understanding of the exciting opportunities available within the technology sector and beyond. We thank HP for providing this outstanding experience and supporting our students' career development.
Year 10 Work Experience Update
A number of Year 10 students have recently completed work experience placements across a range of industries including construction, finance, automotive mechanics, sports coaching and engineering. These placements have provided valuable opportunities for students to experience the workplace firsthand, develop employability skills and gain a better understanding of potential future careers.
Work experience allows students to explore career interests, build confidence in professional environments and make informed decisions about future study and employment pathways. Feedback from both students and employers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many students returning with a greater appreciation of the skills, qualifications and personal attributes required in their chosen industries.
There is still time for Year 10 students to participate in work experience this term.
Students interested in completing a placement should:
• Find a suitable host employer.
• Collect a Student Placement Record from Mrs Hicks in the Careers Office.
• Complete the form with their parent/carer and host employer.
• Return the completed form to Mrs Hicks for approval and scheduling.
• Complete the MyWorkExperience online course and upload the certificate to the Class of 2028 Google Classroom to become Work Experience Ready.
We encourage all Year 10 students to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to explore future career pathways and gain real-world workplace experience.

Western Sydney Careers Expo
Year 12 students recently attended the Western Sydney Careers Expo, where they explored a wide range of post-school pathways.
Students met with universities, TAFE NSW, apprenticeship and traineeship providers, employers and industry representatives to learn about further education, training and career opportunities. They also attended seminars on topics including UAC applications, apprenticeships and future employment pathways.
The expo provided valuable information and helped students make informed decisions as they prepare for life beyond school.
