Dear Parents/Guadians,
I hope you all had a wonderful break and were able to enjoy some quality time with family and friends. It's fantastic to see everyone back, refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning.
We have a busy and engaging term ahead, with plenty of opportunities for students to challenge themselves, discover new interests and celebrate their learning. One of the highlights will be our upcoming Summer Round Robin where students will demonstrate teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship while representing their house teams.
In the classroom, we'll continue adding to our Grade 6 scrapbooks, creating meaningful pieces that showcase each student's learning journey throughout the year. These writing pieces have become a wonderful keepsake and an opportunity for students to reflect on their growth.
Across all learning areas, we'll continue encouraging students to think critically, work collaboratively and challenge themselves to achieve their personal best.

Nevermoor: The trials of Morrigan Crow
Morrigan Crow is an eleven-year-old girl who has been cursed since birth. Everyone blames her for every piece of bad luck that happens around them, and she is destined to die on Eventide, her twelfth birthday. Just as her fate seems certain, she is rescued by the mysterious and charismatic Jupiter North, who whisks her away to the magical city of Nevermoor.
In Nevermoor, Morrigan discovers a world filled with extraordinary people, magical creatures and impossible places. Jupiter enters her into the prestigious Wundrous Society trials, a series of four challenging and often dangerous tests that determine who will be accepted into the Society. The problem is that every other contestant has a remarkable talent, known as a "knack," while Morrigan appears to have no special ability at all.
As Morrigan faces each trial, she forms strong friendships, begins to believe in herself, and uncovers secrets about her past. She eventually learns that her true gift is far more powerful, and far more dangerous, than anyone imagined. Her discovery changes not only her future but also the future of Nevermoor itself.
Writing:
This term, students will immerse themselves in the magical world of Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend as they develop their narrative writing skills.
Using this rich fantasy novel as a mentor text, students will explore how authors create engaging stories through the Story Mountain (Story Arc) structure. They will identify and analyse the key elements of a narrative, including characters, setting, action, problem, resolution and conclusion, and examine how these work together to captivate readers.
Students will also learn to plan and organise their writing using the SPO (Single Paragraph Outline) structure, helping them develop well-sequenced and purposeful narratives. They will investigate how authors build tension, create imaginative settings, develop believable characters and use descriptive language and dialogue to bring stories to life.
Throughout the term, students will plan, draft, revise and publish their own fantasy narratives inspired by Nevermoor. They will continue to strengthen their writing by using precise vocabulary, varied sentence structures, figurative language and effective editing strategies to create engaging and polished pieces of writing.
Mathematics:
In Term 3, students will continue to strengthen their mathematical understanding through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. They will build their knowledge of fractions by comparing, ordering and calculating with fractions, while making connections between fractions, decimals and percentages.
Students will further develop their understanding of decimals, applying place value knowledge and using efficient written and mental strategies to solve problems involving the four operations. They will also explore angles, learning to measure, construct and classify angles, and use angle relationships to solve increasingly complex problems.
In measurement, students will apply their understanding of metric units to investigate perimeter, area, volume and capacity in authentic, real-world contexts. They will also extend their understanding of location and transformation by plotting points on the Cartesian plane and describing, performing and combining translations, reflections and rotations.
Throughout the term, students will continue to develop their mathematical reasoning, problem-solving and communication skills by explaining their thinking, justifying their strategies and applying their learning to a variety of meaningful mathematical investigations.
Knowledge Rich: Three-Way Country Study
This term, students will continue our exciting Three-Way Country Study, exploring and comparing Australia, Vietnam and Greenland. Throughout the unit, students will investigate the location of each country, their physical and human geography, political divisions, climate, natural resources, and how these factors shape the lives of the people who live there.
Students will examine how geography influences population, settlement, culture and the economy, while identifying the similarities and differences between the three countries. They will also explore the impacts of climate change on people, places and industries, investigate how each country is responding through sustainable practices, and consider actions that can help create a more sustainable future.
We look forward to seeing students strengthen their geographical knowledge, critical thinking and inquiry skills while developing a deeper understanding of the diverse environments and communities that make up our world.
STEM Room Donations Needed
We are currently collecting recycled materials for our exciting Term 3 Science Projects in the STEM room. We would greatly appreciate donations of clean items such as plastic water bottles or soft drink bottles, shoe boxes, plastic lids, and cardboard tubing or paper rolls (please no toilet rolls). Donations can be dropped off at the STEM room at any time. Thank you for your continued support in helping provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities for our students.
