STEM Room Donations Needed
We are currently collecting recycled materials for our exciting Term 3 Science Projects in the STEM room. We would greatly appreciate donations of clean items such as plastic water bottles or soft drink bottles, shoe boxes, plastic lids, and cardboard tubing or paper rolls (please no toilet rolls).
Donations can be dropped off at the STEM room at any time. Thank you for your continued support in helping provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities for our students.

📖 Literacy
Literature
We are so excited to jump into our new literature units for this term! The books we are delving into are:
- The Stone Lion by Margaret Wild
- The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson
- The Gentle Genius of Trees by Phillip Bunting
- Walking in Gagadju Country by Ben Tyler and Diane Elizabeth Lucas
Students will explore narratives, specifically looking at the features and orally retelling a story. Through these units students will develop their sentence level writing skills by working on expanding simple sentences with adverbial phrases, using commas in a list, revising compound sentences and using pronouns and possessive adjectives.
Students will then apply these skills to text level writing to plan, write and edit a narrative and later innovate poems.
Word Work
Over the term the Grade 2s will cover concepts including:

- plurals/third person
🧠 Knowledge Rich
This term in Knowledge Rich, our Grade 2 students will explore two exciting units that build their understanding of the world around them through Geography and Science.
Our first unit is Representing Places. Students will investigate how places are represented using maps, globes, photographs and data. They will learn about their local area, Australia and the wider world, exploring continents, oceans and neighbouring countries. Students will compare urban, rural and remote communities, examine how people are connected through transport and communication, and explore First Nations Places through language and cultural maps.
Our second unit introduces students to the fascinating world of insects—the largest group of animals on Earth! Students will learn about their characteristics, life cycles and the important roles they play in our environment. They will explore how insects can be both helpful and harmful, record their learning in an insect journal, and use their knowledge to create an informative piece of writing.
➗ Maths
This term in Mathematics, our Grade 2 students will be exploring multiplication and division by making equal groups, creating arrays, and sharing collections fairly. Students will learn how multiplication and division are connected and apply these skills to solve simple, real-world problems.
We will also continue to build strong number and operations skills. Students will practise addition and subtraction using mental and written strategies, explain their thinking, and choose efficient methods to solve a range of problems with increasing confidence.
In our Shape unit, students will learn to name, identify, describe, sort, combine, and manipulate 2D shapes and 3D objects. They will explore features such as parallel lines, regular and irregular polygons, faces, edges, and vertices, create patterns through rotation, investigate where shapes are used in everyday life, and apply their understanding in problem-solving tasks.
You can support your child at home by practising skip counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s, encouraging them to share items equally, and looking for shapes in everyday environments such as buildings, packaging, and road signs. We look forward to a fun and engaging term of mathematical learning and problem-solving together!
😊 Wellbeing
Our wellbeing lessons in Term 3 will focus on help-seeking and respecting diversity. Students will learn when and how to ask for help, identify trusted adults and support networks, and develop confidence in seeking assistance when they need it.
Students will also explore gender norms and stereotypes, celebrating individual strengths, interests and identities while recognising that everyone should be treated fairly and with respect. Through discussions and collaborative activities, they will learn to challenge stereotypes, promote inclusion and understand what it means to be gender fair.
Throughout the term, we will continue to make connections to the strategies and language introduced in Friendology, supporting students to build positive friendships, strengthen their social skills and create a kind, inclusive classroom community.
