Junior School

Ms Jessika Cichy

As we gear up for the second half of Term 2 at Westall, I wanted to extend my warmest regards and a heartfelt thank you to all our students, staff, and parents for their unwavering support and dedication – especially now with the colder mornings and shorter evenings! I'm excited to see what the remainder of Term 2 has in store for us.

Recap of the Term’s Highlights:

This term, as we transitioned into the cooler months, it’s been great to see our students looking sharp in their winter uniforms, complete with ties, school jackets, and black shoes. Their adherence to our uniform expectations reflects a commitment to representing Westall with pride, and I’m incredibly thankful for it. Parents – please continue to support students coming to school in the right uniform, and if you have any issues or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact one of the staff in Junior School so we can discuss supports.

I'd also like to extend my appreciation to the Year 7s and 8s who participated in the recent photoshoot for our new promotional materials for the updated school website coming soon, and I want to express my gratitude to the brave Year 7 students who received their immunisations this term. Your courage in supporting our most vulnerable community members exemplify the care values that we hold dear at Westall. Well done!

Lastly, this term marked the introduction of late detentions in the Junior School to foster consistency across our sub schools. Punctuality and organisation are key skills that, when practiced, show a care for learning and self that extends beyond high school. Students arriving late to periods 1 or 2 will be required to see one of the Junior School leaders at recess to discuss how we can support them coming to school on time. I urge parents to support our efforts by encouraging students to arrive on time and prepared for the day ahead.

Coming Up:

Looking ahead, I would like to remind everyone of the upcoming Monarch's Public Holiday in Week 9 of the school term on Monday the 10th June, 2024, followed by a student-free day on Wednesday the 12th June 2024. These dates provide an excellent opportunity for students to recharge and spend quality time with family and friends. Furthermore, mark your calendars for our Semester 1 Awards Assembly scheduled for the 20th of June, 2024. Stay tuned for more information from our principal team as we celebrate the achievements and successes of our students during this special event.

As we embark on the new term, I encourage parents and students alike to reach out with any questions or concerns. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to provide the best possible support for every child at Westall Junior School. Thank you once again for your continued support and dedication.

iCreate - Meta of the Universe Improve Workshop Incursion

On Wednesday of Week 5, the iCreate Masters of the Metaverse students participated in improvisation incursion led by Impro Melbourne.

The focus of this was to not only build students’ confidence and comfort amongst their peers, but also to promote “happy failure” - a term used in improvisation that asks students to forgive mistakes and take them in stride, rather than letting them get bogged down in them.

Students had a lot of fun, and our presenter was a superstar. A big thank you to all the students for putting their best feet forward and having a go!
