The Message
Still later, as the Eleven were eating supper, he appeared and took them to task most severely for their stubborn unbelief, refusing to believe those who had seen him raised up. Then he said, “Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God’s good news to one and all. Whoever believes and is baptised is saved; whoever refuses to believe is damned. “These are some of the signs that will accompany believers: They will throw out demons in my name, they will speak in new tongues, they will take snakes in their hands, they will drink poison and not be hurt, they will lay hands on the sick and make them well.” Then the Master Jesus, after briefing them, was taken up to heaven, and he sat down beside God in the place of honour. And the disciples went everywhere preaching, the Master working right with them and confirming the word with signs that followed. Mark 16: 15-20
Reflection
When we hear news that is exciting we have an urge to tell others about it, to share our joy. Thus it was with the disciples. They are missioned by Jesus, sent to ‘go out’, into the whole world, to spread the ‘good news’.
Do we have any sense of us being sent out in our own lives? We are each called to make known and spread the love of God: to pass on the good news to those we encounter; and all this in the confidence that God is working with us.
May we proclaim the good news to the whole of creation by the way we live, by being a blessing to the world that God has made.
The words of Jesus link heaven and earth. From his place in heaven, the Lord works with us and is a companion in the work of proclaiming good news. His friendship with each of us is good news for us. We are to share that in different situations.
