Wollongong City Council - Feedback Open for Council’s draft Wollongong Integrated Transport Strategy

We have developed the draft Wollongong Integrated Transport Strategy (draft strategy) to lead transport planning and investment across the Wollongong Local Government Area over the next 10 years.

The draft strategy outlines Council’s vision, guiding principles, and goals to improve the way we move around our city into the future and the actions we’ll take to achieve them. Until now, we’ve considered transport planning and delivery in a site-specific or transport-specific way. This new draft strategy takes a more overarching view of the city and lays out what steps we, Transport for NSW, and our community can take to ensure sustainable, accessible, and affordable transport options are available for our growing and diverse community. We are now seeking feedback on the draft strategy to inform the final version. Please note the last day for feedback is Monday 27 May 2024.

Find out more and provide feedback:

Yr 2 have been using games to work on ascending and descending numbers.

Yr 4 Have been working on equivalent fractions- Ashby and Cristiano demonstrated that they could even find equivalent fractions for sevenths! Their next challenge was ninths.

Walk Safely to School Day - TOMORROW

St Joseph's will be celebrating and acknowledging 'Walk Safely to School Day' on Friday, 10 May. This community initiative aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport, and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long-term well-being of our children. It coincides with National Road Safety Week.

Tomorrow Friday May 10 (Week 2), we encourage families to walk together to school or park their car and walk part of the way to school. Some St Joseph's staff members will be meeting on the grass area near Bulli Beach Cafe at 8:20 a.m. We invite students to meet the teachers here and walk safely to school together! Parents are encouraged to join us to walk safely to school with the staff and students.

NSWPSSA Swimming Championships

In the last week of Term 1, our SJB Senior Girls and Boys Relay teams and individual swimmers competed at the PSSA Swimming Championships in Homebush alongside many elite athletes. Well done to all the competitors who represented our Diocese so well. Congratulations to the senior boys relay team, who were finalists, and to Nash and Archer, both of whom made the finals in the 50m Breaststroke events. Both boys put in outstanding performances.

Nash H finished 2nd in the 11 year old Breastroke event, gaining selection for the NSW PSSA team. This is a fantastic achievement, which is a credit to him and the hard work he puts in each week of training in the pool. Nash will now head to the Gold Coast in July to participate in the National Swimming Championship!

SJB wishes him the very best of luck!

Diocesan Rugby Union Trials

Congratulations to Will G in Year 5 who was selected in the Diocesan Rugby Union Team last Friday. We wish him all the best as he competes in the MacKillop Rugby Union Trials in Forbes on Monday July 1.

Well done Will!

Gala Day Nomination Process - Yrs 3-6

This year, we will trial a digital preferential Google Form for students to indicate the Gala Days they would be interested in attending or an opt-out option. We are encouraging student voice via a new system this year in an attempt to overcome the impact of high numbers of students declining these events in the final organisational stages prior to the Gala date.

We are really looking forward to providing students in Yr 3-6 with some wonderful sporting opportunities at gala days, during PE and at our Athletics Carnival later this term.

The proposed Gala Days' dates are listed below for parents. If your child is nominated to attend a gala day, further details will be communicated to students at school and to parents via Compass.

Gala Day Philosophy

All gala days strictly operate under CEDoW’s Gala Day Philosophy

The gala days are designed for students to enjoy the sport, try the sport out, have fun and exercise without the pressure of competition and winning. We are fortunate to have staff willing to organise these gala opportunities and prepare and train students in their break times, along with parents willing to act as team managers on the day. As always, St Joseph's Bulli is proud to see our students, teachers and parents maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all when attending our gala day events. We know 2024 will be no exception.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs Grose, Mrs Smith or Miss O'Donoghue.
