ANZAC Day School Commemoration
Last Tuesday staff, students and families gathered as a Catholic School community to commemorate ANZAC DAY. Those who participated in the liturgy commented on how incredibly respectful the students were, as we remembered all Australian and New Zealander men and women who served and died in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
Today we enjoy the freedom won for us by the ANZACS. As a Catholic school community we remember their sacrifice and pray that the gift of peace given to us by these brave people will be treasured and protected for generations to come.
We were blessed to have two men from the Australian Defence Force participate in the liturgy and speak to the Year 5 students. The talk was centered around mateship and looking after each other. A quote that resonated with the students was, “You don’t label yourself as a good friend, it’s those around you who give you that label.”
A special thank you to Gail Woodcock, the grandmother of Logan R (Year 4), who several years ago, knitted the poppies worn by all staff and students during the ANZAC Day commemorations.
' There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends.'

Year 6 Compose ANZAC Day Poems
World War One Poem By Sahara (6J)
I'm in the trenches, I don't shoot to stun,
I wish I never signed up for World War One.
Its dark and cramped and terribly cold.
It was all an adventure, that's what we were told.
But it wasn't true, they were all big lies,
Now I have to watch as my best friend dies.
I'm writing this poem so others will know,
War is a nightmare, you shouldn't want to go.
All those posters you see, what they say isn't real.
Don't apply for war, no matter it's appeal,
More likely than not, at war you will die,
And then in Flanders Field, you will forever more lie.

Cosmic Walk Quotes
“You are not IN the universe, you ARE the universe, an intrinsic part of it. Ultimately you are not a person, but a focal point where the universe is becoming conscious of itself. What an amazing miracle.” Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth
“The Cosmic Walk takes us on a creation journey that combines science and faith. It reveals the mystery of God in all the Universe.” Ned S (Yr 6 Student)
“The Cosmic Walk makes me appreciate the detail and wonder of God’s work in building the Kingdom of God.” Sophia M (Yr 6 Student)
“The Cosmic Walk gives us hope and inspiration as we grow in faith and in learning.” Sophie M & Celie S (Yr 6 Students)
“Through experiencing ‘The Cosmic Walk’ students can learn they are a special, unique and loved part of God’s Creation.” Christine Smith (REC)
“This comic walk is a visual reminder of the wonderous nature of our world, from its miraculous eruption into existence to the complex evolutionary milestones that have shaped it. In guiding the students along the walk, they are encouraged to contemplate with wonder and awe, God’s presence, their connectedness with the universe and their role as custodians of our precious planet.”
Paola Birac (Creative Arts Teacher)
"By taking the cosmic walk students of all ages need to contemplate the mystery of life, the awesome presence of God in the whole cosmic journey and the invitation for us all to appreciate the fragility of our earth and its perishable beauty. Teacher's should feel compelled to contribute a hopeful awareness in their students of the actions that affect our personal, social, natural and structural environments. It is vital that children fully explore the meanings and implications for personal peace in their thoughts, actions, hopes and dreams. Students in their learning will hopefully become constantly aware that they are part of the continuing unfolding journey of this universe and our connectedness to all of creation." John Charadia
