Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have  served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

New news!

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation will be celebrated on Tuesday, 28th May at 7pm at St. Mary’s Church, involving nine students in our Sacramental program.

The following students have been preparing for this sacrament of forgiveness in class and were presented at Assembly recently. Our prayers are with them as they celebrate this important

step in their faith journey:

  • Alex Nioa
  • Madisyn Leask
  • Boston Ferrari
  • Rose Earl
  • Zara Vigliaturo
  • Zac Viglliaturo
  • Angelo Natalizio
  • Havana Collins

The nine students will spend time together on Friday, 24th May as part of our Sacramental Reflection Day. We will attend Mass, reflect on the meaning of forgiveness and reconciliation in our lives and practise for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

All classes have been focussing on Religious Education “Source of Life” units of work that relate to forgiveness as part of a whole school focus on this sacrament in preparation for this wonderful celebration.

Updated news!

Celebrations for Catholic Education Week!!

Gallery Image

We recently celebrated Catholic Education Week!

Last Friday, 3rd May, the Grade Six students led a variety

of activities for the whole school to celebrate Catholic Education Week.

The students have loads of fun and were challenged with a variety of activities. that were planned and prepared by the Grade Six students as part of their leadership commitment.

We appreciate and recall the commitment of the Sisters of Mercy who started our school here in Mooroopna.

According to some sources, Mooroopna had it’s own school as early as 1877 when the first St. Mary’s Church was opened in Mill Street. There was certainly a school operating in the church by 1880.

In 1933, the parish priest, Fr. Hugh Ryan, led the beginning of the construction of a presbytery and school on the corner of Toolamba Road and McLennan Street! The school/church was officially blessed in 1936, with the Sisters of Mercy, Sister Alban and Sister Annina, the two staff members for 60 students!!

The school/church was in use until 1962 when three new classrooms, an office and a staff room were built. And look at our amazing facilities now!!

We have been blessed with visionary leadership in the past and this continues today!

New Reminder!
