Around the Classrooms - 1/2Q

Reading

Throughout our reading sessions this week, students have been focusing on building their vocabulary.  Meaning, they are building familiarity with new words found in non-fiction texts. Students have also been putting these new words  into familiar contexts to ensure understanding. As students build on their vocabulary, they will begin to experiment with their word choices and explore a range of more texts.

Writing

During our writing sessions this week, students have been looking at the differences between facts and opinions. As we've been focusing on non-fiction texts, students have been gathering facts from various texts and creating their own ‘Did you know’ facts to share with their peers.

Religion

During our Religion class this week, students discussed the idea of rituals and what this meant to each of them. Many spoke about family dinners, going to church or other places of worship as a ritual they had. The students created their own pictures displaying their rituals and shared these with one another.

Maths

During Maths this week, 1/2Q has been looking at number lines and how we order numbers correctly on number lines. Students have also been representing numbers in different ways such as writing numerals, drawing/creating bundles and showing a quantity through pictures. The students loved their ‘washing line’ task, where they had to create different ways to represent numbers and put them into the correct order on their washing number line.
