Each day after our phonics lesson, I will work with different groups of students to help them read words, sentences and stories using all the sounds and letters they have been taught. While I am working with a group, the rest of the class will be doing an activity to consolidate what they have been learning. This may be a spelling activity sheet, a game to practise their tricky words, or more practice using a decodable reader.
My favourite activity is:
Avery - Reading with the teacher
Felix - Rocket ship Bingo
Lillie - Sound craft
Lachy - Writing tricky words
Lili - Sound bingo
Jerome - Saying words and writing them on whiteboards
Esther - Writing on the whiteboards
Isha - Making a story on the felt boards
Year 1 has started learning about elements included in informative texts. So far, we have learnt some fun facts about honeybees and spiders, as well as drawing some interesting labelled diagrams. Here are some wonderful sentences written by Year 1 students.
Some spiders live in a hole and some spiders live in the water. SOme spiders live in webs which are made out of silk. RUBY & EMMA K
Spiders are not insects! They are arachnids. SOme of them have 8 eyes but ALL of them have 8 legs! JUDE & HARRISON
A female spider can make a web that is as big as a Sydney bus! They use the web to catch their prey. THEO & WILLIAM
Year Two was delighted to be back at school to dive into learning this term. They have been working diligently on their morning spelling activities and maths tasks, looking at data and grouping numbers. We are looking forward to a busy, fun-filled term ahead.
Year 3 enjoyed the interactive science incursion that occurred on Tuesday. ‘Kaleidoscope Science’ made science sizzle for the students through authentic, live demonstration in an interactive learning environment. Mitch made the story of push & pull forces, motion and energy come alive for the students.
Year 4 were fortunate enough to attend the ‘Kaleidoscope Science’ Incursion, where they learnt about scientific forces and energy through participating in a variety of experiments. The children enjoyed watching balloons pop, moving teachers in the air with their bare hands, pulling the instructor with nothing but some string and lots more! Watch out for STMM’s new force and gravity scientists!
Stage 3 had the privilege of working with ‘Kaleidoscope Science’ this week to learn all about forces and movement. We had lots of fun using a skateboard to learn about friction, swinging a bucket full of water in the air to demonstrate the Law of Motion, and comparing the force of one individual nail with the force of 1000 nails - we even had one brave volunteer to sit on the bed of nails!
This term Stage 3 are working together in Literacy Circles to explore comprehension skills and understanding in our Literacy block. We have started the term focusing on fact files about influential people and events in Australian history, aligned with our unit of work in History.
