WELCOME TO AUSLAN!
Courtenay Gardens is excited to introduce Auslan into the Curriculum.
Auslan is short for Australian sign language, a language developed by, and for, Australians who are deaf or hearing impaired. It’s a visual form of communication that uses hand, arm and body movements to convey meaning.
In term 1, the students have been introduced to the Auslan language beginning with the alphabet, colours, everyday signs, family signs, school signs and farm animals. These signs can be combined to build Auslan communication and we are so excited to see already how the students have embraced this new language.
In term 2, we will begin by learning numbers, feelings, greetings and questions.
The lessons care taught using video and the students practice the learning with fun poems/songs, games and activities.
Be sure to get your child to show you some of the signs they have learned already. 😊
