Well Being Hub #2

Guidance Officer Week 2024

22 April – 3 May

Guidance Officers contribute to the Wellbeing of the school community through a multifaceted approach.  Guidance Officers (GOs) contribute to the development of a comprehensive student support and wellbeing program, which is responsive to the needs of our school community.

Working with school staff, students are identified as requiring extra support in areas such as educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, and mental health and wellbeing issues, and GO’s provide advice or counselling to support the young person. Often this involves working with stakeholders, parents, external support providers, and the student to ensure we are supporting the ‘Whole Child’.

Guidance officers work with school teams to provide support and case management in responding to some of the most complex and challenging of circumstances, including student protection matters, critical incidents, mental health issues, and suicide prevention and postvention support.

In addition, GOs can provide training and support to staff to build their understanding and capability about how best to support students' mental health and wellbeing.
