THINGS TO DO FOR HOMEWORK THAT AREN'T READING...

The MOST important thing to do every day with your child is to read, especially when they are learning to read as they need your support.  However, there are other things that you can do at home that foster curiosity and help with learning too.  Here is a list of ideas you might like to try:

Science Experiments: Conducting simple science experiments at home can foster curiosity, observation skills, and understanding of scientific concepts.

Art Projects: Engaging in art activities such as drawing, painting, or crafting promotes creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression.

Puzzle Games: Solving puzzles like crosswords, Sudoku, or jigsaw puzzles enhances critical thinking, pattern recognition, and spatial awareness.

Building with Blocks or Legos: Building structures with blocks or Legos improves spatial awareness, problem-solving abilities, and fine motor skills.

Cooking or Baking: Involving children in cooking or baking activities promotes following instructions, measuring, and understanding scientific principles (like mixing ingredients).

Outdoor Exploration:  Going on a treasure hunt related to nature observation, gardening, or exploring the outdoors encourages curiosity, observation, and appreciation for the environment.

Have fun trying some of these and if you do try any, I would love for your child to share what they did with the class.

SHOW AND TELL NEWS!

The students have been very keen to share special things with the class like toys and games, trophies and medals.  That has been wonderful to see.  It is really important we don't bring things into school that are precious or could upset a student if they break or are lost.  So please, no bringing special toys in to school unless they have been asked to. On that note, keep an eye out for an email soon that will have when and what your child will be expected to share something special for show and tell with the class.
