Prep Team News

with Caitlin, Hayley & Andrea

Hello Prep families,

We can’t believe we are half-way through Term Three! We still have many exciting events coming up over the next four weeks including our Puppet Incursion, Book Week Parade, Prep Breakfast and Footy Day! It will be a busy but eventful end to the term.

Jar Collection

The Prep Team is collecting jars in preparation for our Seaside Fair on Sunday 26th November. We are looking for jars around the size of a jam jar or approximately 350g. Can we please ask that these jars have their lid with them and are clean, with labels removed. These jars can be provided to your child’s classroom teacher. Thank you very much in advance for your support!

Parent Helpers

Thank you to our wonderful parent community  for the great response we have had so far to opening up our classrooms to parent helpers. The teachers and students have loved having helpers in to help with reading and games during our literacy sessions. We now have sign up sheets on the classroom doors for helpers in Week 6, 7, and 8. Please see your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions.

Father’s Day Afternoon Tea

In honour of our wonderful dads we will be hosting a special afternoon just for them! We would love for all Prep dads to join us in your child’s classroom at 2:45pm on Friday 1st September. We hope you can make it, but we also understand that this might not be possible due to other commitments. If dad is not available at this time, another special person in your child’s life is more than welcome to attend (e.g. grandfather, uncle, family friend, etc.). We have sent a compass notification to families that contains more information about the event.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 5 - 6

Reading - Students will explore the features of narrative texts including the characters, setting, problem and solution in stories. As part of our Little Learner’s program, students are now beginning to learn other common sounds including digraphs and trigraphs. Our current focus is the /ck/ sound.

Writing - Students are continuing to learn to correctly form letters and use their sound knowledge to write sentences. We are reading and discussing narrative texts and writing written responses about these. Students are also beginning to have a go at creating their own narratives.

Numeracy - Students are exploring time including the days of the week, identifying and sequencing events in our day and reading clocks to the hour.

Inquiry - This term, our inquiry topic is What’s my story? What’s your story? Our big topics will include: stories can be communicated in different ways, stories from the past can show us how things have changed over time and different cultures share stories in different ways.
