School Council News

School Council meeting Tuesday 15th August 2023.

While we were able to achieve quorum, some of our Council members were unavoidably absent dealing with injuries or the winter lurgy, while others were attending the year 4 school camp at Adanac in the beautiful Yarra Valley.

During the meeting, Mat Montebello, our Principal, provided an update through his Principal report. Mat expressed his deep gratitude and pride following the Whole School 150th-year Celebration day that took place last week. This event successfully brought every corner of our WPS community together. Mat also expressed his appreciation for the hard work done by the committee members who organised the Gala & Open Day, Seaside Fair, and the 150th coffee table book publication, which is approaching its final stages of completion. We want to sincerely thank all community members who participated in celebrating this momentous milestone.

Mat also shared that all the activities related to our 150th birthday celebration are designed to encourage participation while maintaining a cost/revenue neutral stance. This approach aims to foster a spirit of inclusion.

The Building and Grounds subcommittee, in collaboration with Heritage Victoria, has successfully completed the WPS Buildings Master Plan. We are currently awaiting support from the 2024 annual budget. We will keep you updated on our progress. Additionally, the subcommittee shared details about the '150th commemorative tiles' initiative, giving families the opportunity to purchase commemorative tiles that will be displayed along the PE wall on Electra St. This initiative will commence at the start of the next term.

During the School Council meeting, reports from the Finance Sub-Committee were also discussed.

We want to remind you that WPS highly values your feedback. Earlier this month, all families received an email encouraging them to complete the Department of Education Parents and Carers School Opinion Survey. We appreciate your input, as it will help the school leadership team strive for further improvements.

School Council’s next meeting will be held on Tuesday 17th October.
